- Prior to my ownership it was owned by a very good friend who was a BMW mechanic turned engineer for Aston Martin. He was very detailed with his car care and changed almost every part on the 330d during his ownership. The most significant parts he uprated was the fitment of E46 M3 suspension and a E46 M3 steering wheel. My friend was given the car by his father who used it as a motorway vehicle to commute to his job as a secondary school headteacher. I have travelled 7, 000 miles in the car. And my friend and his father collectively travelled 100, 000 miles in the car during their 6 years of ownership. The car was originally registered as a company car.
- Lots of history and paperwork with the car. Two folders overflowing with paperwork dating back to its original purchase.
- 2 keys
- Smooth three litre 6 cylinder diesel engine, 184bhp & 390NM, averages over 50mpg and returns 600+ miles per tank.
- Lots of factory optional extras: cruise control, rear blind, air con (ice cold), CD disc changer, multi-function steering wheel, electric windows front and back, full leather, AUX input.
What I’ve done to the car:
- Serviced every 12 months regardless of mileage with oil changes and all recommended work completed. (Recommended dealer service intervals are 12, 000 miles)
- Tyres – all 4 replaced approximately 5, 000 miles, loads of tread.
- Tracking realignment.
- Air con ragas and clean.
- New regulator in passenger window
- Rear brake lights rewired
- 2 oil changes.
Bad points:
- Surface rust to rear arches.
- Driver’s seat worn.
- Washer bottle fluid leaks fluid – have taken the car to a mechanic about this and both him and I were confused as the bottle is not cracked.
Good points:
- Great motorway car, no wind noise, comfortable seats.
- Very quiet diesel engine.
- Large boot.
- Good legroom in the back seats
- Xenon lights: very bright and makes night-time driving easy.
- Clean examples of E46's are getting rarer and rarer, and are steadily increasing in value. Providing you look after it, you will not loose any money on this car.
