1951 BMW 501 Straight Six 1971 cc Saloon , "Baroque Angel" named after its steel body works extravagantly curvaceous lines , Launched in April 1951 at the "Frankfurt Motor Show" with its new perimeter chassis with independent front suspension and air stream body work this was a most stylish motor car , A claimed 84 MPH and a price tag of four times the average German salary of the period . With the paper work supplied with our BMW 501 it appears it has been in theUK for near on 55 years . In 1990 it was purchased by its restorer who brought the 501 back to its former glory . The engine was rebuilt by renown specialists "TT Workshops LTD" in 1999/ 2000 and in 2002 the gearbox was rebuilt also by "TT Workshops LTD" (Supporting Invoices Supplied) . Today the 501 presents very well and a round trip of 50 miles was a rewarding drive . Easy gear change , Superb brakes , Cruise at 50 MPH , No overheating and the oil pressure maintained well .
