This fabulous UK supplied low ownership RHD Fiat 500L has covered just 8800 miles from new and comes with an exceptional history dating back to new. Our Fiat was supplied new by Cole & Kirkby Ltd in London NW9 to a Mr J L Mackinlay whose home address was in Hawes, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. The Fiat was first registered on the 1st December 1969 in North Yorkshire to Mr Mackinlay at Simonstone Hall, now Simonstone Hall Hotel. AMU 642 comes with all of its original manuals and handbooks, Customer Document Envelope, original Green ‘buff’ logbook, Fiat (England) Ltd compliment slip and even its pre-delivery check service report from November 1969. The service coupon book was stamped by Croft & Blackburn Ltd in Ripon in 1970, and again in 1972 at 2255 miles with the original BP Lubrication report present.
In 1973 the Ripon dealership serviced the Fiat again, and later Mr MacKinlay moved to Pinchinthorpe Hall in Guisborough and from then, Guisborough and Middlesbrough based garages looked after the Fiat before he parted with the car in 1988. MOT certificates are on file recording the mileage from 1976 at 4768, 5347, 6696, 6759, 7443, 8020 and 8374 miles. In 1988 the Fiat was purchased by a Mr Fuller in Whitby, North Yorkshire who bought the car as a present for his wife. From 1989 to 2015 the Fiat stayed with the Fuller family, covering just 500 miles over 27 years. The Fiat spent more time carefully dry stored in the garage but was out for an MOT test in 1997 at 8457 miles and again in 2009 at 8481 miles.
In 2015 the most recent owner purchased the Fiat from auction for a total price of £17, 000 including premium. The car was MOT tested at 8485 miles and was treated to new brake shoes, new wheel cylinders and a new set of tyres. The underside was also subject to removal of underseal, treated with red oxide and then re-undersealed. In 2018 at 8637 miles and three years, 152 miles into ownership the Fiat was taken to an independent Porsche specialist and had £4200 spent on re-commissioning work. The cylinder head was removed, valves decoked, checked and pressured tested, the engine was stripped down and treated to new piston rings, new seals and gaskets. Due to the low mileage the engine was found to be in generally excellent condition hence not requiring a full rebuild. The gearbox was stripped, checked and seals were replaced. New driveshaft boots, gearbox mountings, fuel lines, wheel bearings and rear shock absorbers were all replaced. In total, over £5000 was spent on the Fiat throughout ownership.
The Fiat has arrived with us in largely original condition and is a real, true timewarp. We enjoy finding low mileage, low ownership cars with fabulous provenance and history files, and this car really doesn't disappoint. The paperwork is fabulous, and the car itself is delightful with a fantastic, first class original upholstery, rock solid exceptional body and delightful older paintwork with a good shine whilst still retaining patina. Mechanically the Fiat is strong as expected with such low mileage and the recent re-commissioning, it will just require a thorough service having been kept on display for most of the last 3 years. AMU 642 is a true collector's piece, and with less than 10, 000 miles, low ownership and such impressive history from new, this has to be one of the most sought after Fiat 500's on the market.
