EXTERIOR;
Finished in a fantastic coat of Sport Blue metallic, this Renault 5 GT's bodywork gleams here in our studio after a thorough detailing session. The car has been subject to a comprehensive body strip and restoration, as such the paint is in excellent condition and looks as fresh as it did when it was on the forecourt in the 80s.
GT Turbo Raider decals sit along the top of the rear window, which alongside its bolt on plastic wheel arches, complete Renault's boxy figure and the retro appeal that can only been found in these iconic 80s hot hatches.
INTERIOR;
Coloured in two tone grey cloth with blue sports stitching the interior echos the nostalgic feel of the bodywork, adding to the sporty character of this iconic hot hatch.
The original front bucket seats are in good condition and still provide good support, with the fabric side bolsters remaining free from any sagging or stains. There is an area of deterioration on the front passenger seat upper bolster however replacement seat covers are still available. The rears are in excellent order with only the door cards showing some signs of age around the door pulls.
Further afield the dashboard and steering wheel show in good condition, whilst the upgraded JCV FM radio system provides a CD player for some basic but none the less essential entertainment on the go.
ENGINE;
Producing 120 bhp the 1. 4L turbocharged 4-cylinder unit found in the Renault 5 turbo was never the most powerful engine in the world, but when fitted to a car weighing just 830kg it made for a surprisingly quick car. Reaching a reasonable top speed of 128 mph the 5 Turbo was more about acceleration, sprinting to 60mph in just 7. 3 seconds thanks to the tremendous boost produced by the Garrett T2 Turbo which properly kicked at around 3, 000rpm after a good old dose of 80s turbo lag.
Subject to a recent restoration the engine was removed and serviced upon re-fitment as documented by its photographic record of restoration as such the engine bay is spotlessly clean and tidy retaining all of its fragile plastic covers, rubbers and pipe work much of which gets damaged over time. Void of the usual aftermarket modifications the engine remains stock and performs as Renault intended.
Having covered a mere 67k miles from new this GT Turbo Raider must be one of the few low mileage examples left in the UK.
WHEELS;
The car sits on its original 13 inch 5 spoke Renault Speedline alloys which all show in unmarked condition, with the almost new looking Yokohama A539 tyres showing plenty of tread all around . The brakes along side all the suspension have been replaced or refurbished as part of its restoration and so sit in excellent condition.
HISTORY FILE;
First registered on on the 01/ 02/ 1990 this exceptional Renault 5 GT Turbo Raider has had a reserved life only covering an average of 2. 5k miles per year since it was registered. An excellent base for a restoration it was fully stripped and refurbished by it's last owner over the past few years which is photographically documented.
The history file comprises of a selection of MOT certificates with a detailed selection of invoices outlining historic servicing, maintenance and parts alongside its manuals and plastic book pack.
