2004 Subaru Impreza WRX SL Wagon – Non Runner
Unfortunately my much cherished Scooby has suffered a suspected head gasket failure and no longer runs.
I have owned this car since January 2008 and am only the second owner. She is a real head turner and in a word, has been superb over the last 14 years and I shall miss her when she goes. Cars like the Impreza Wagon are a dying breed and few others provide quite as much bang for your buck with such functionality and unquestionable sure footed driveability. The WRX Wagon variants, given their practicality have diminished in numbers at a far greater rate than the saloon models and are now quite scarce and this is a rare opportunity to create something special.
The WRX SL was a special edition, sold fully loaded with all the options including a full leather interior, climate control a/ c, heated front seats, electric adjustable mirrors, body kit comprising side skirts and high/ low level rear tailgate spoilers and electric sunroof. There is also a Subaru demountable tow hitch and multi-pin socket.
This really is a fantastic enthusiasts car in need of a sympathetic new owner who can bring her back to life. Whilst a basic head gasket repair will likely suffice, this would require engine removal and thus a well-earned engine rebuild would be better given the mileage. Unfortunately I do not have time to repair her to the standard I would want. She has never been thrashed or tracked in my ownership and always treated with respect. She still has the original clutch, will give you a clue as to the care she has garnered. She sailed through her MOT on the 20th January and was performing perfectly, returning 26mpg on average.
I purchased the car with 46k miles on the clock and a full Subaru dealership service history. She has now covered 145k miles and has wanted for nothing over the years, having been regularly serviced by a combination of Subaru dealer/ specialists and myself. Regular oil/ fluid changes have seen to it that she has run incredibly well until the recent failure on the 27th January.
She is fitted with Eibach lowering springs and standard WRX rate dampers, so is not the usual undriveable rattlebox. She also benefits from a full custom built stainless steel exhaust system, (with lifetime guarantee) by Fast Road Conversions of Ashford, which is in superb condition. This is a sensible silenced system with a standard look to the tail pipe that produces a lovely low key boxer rumble rather than the usual oversized noise box.
I have a full history file dating right back to the original bill of sale, including all MOT certificates and service receipts.
The body is very good but does have the odd signs of wear and tear, (carpark dinks/ scuff) that should be easy to “smart fix”. The interior is also in very good condition, albeit a little grubby in the boot. Everything works as it should. There are even old fashion tape and CD players.
Tyres are good Toyo Proxes all round, with approximately 4 – 5mm of tread and wearing evenly. The wheels are STi 10 spoke 17” alloys. These were refurbished about seven years ago and are now showing signs of age. However, I have recently purchased and fully refurbished another identical set that were intended to go on later this year with new tyres. These will be sold separately for £500, but could be negotiated with the car. In addition I also have a set of fully refurbished 16 x 6. 6” gold alloys with unused snow tyres that are also negotiable with the car.

I have done my best to explain the car history and condition and hope the photos give you a good clue. Any inspection would be welcome as I really hope someone has the time and wherewithal to save this fabulous car.
