1929 Talbot 14/ 45 Weymann ‘Sunshine Coupe’

Always a much-revered motor car, the Talbot 14/ 45 was the first of the George Roesch designs which were to restore the company’s fortunes. Making its debut at the Motor Show in 1926, the new 14/ 45 was to prove quite a sensation. The 1. 7 litre OHV engine was a particularly smooth, free revving unit with great flexibility. The engine design was subsequently developed and Talbot motor cars gained considerable success at Le Mans, Brooklands and in the Alpine Rallies during the 1930’s.
Presented here is a 1929 14/ 45 fitted with ‘Sunshine Coupe’ coachwork of Weymann design. A distinctive and stylish motor car, it bristles with delightful period features and is a pleasure to drive.
Supplied new in July 1929 to a Dr Helen Farady-Gray, she used the car throughout WW2 and the paperwork file contains petrol coupons to allow for extra fuel during wartime use.
The doctor was to retain the Talbot until 1967, such was her fondness for the car and in her hands some 45, 000 miles were covered.
During 1999 the car was acquired by Michael Marshall and a most meticulous restoration was undertaken, with the process recorded over the years in many articles he wrote for The Talbot Owners’ Club magazine.
More recently, this car was the subject of a 7-page feature in ‘The Automobile’ in May 2020.
With its ability to cruise comfortably at 55 mph, the large sunshine roof allows for pleasant fine weather motoring.
Carefully maintained in the current ownership, this characterful Vintage Talbot is certain to bring much pleasure to its next custodian.
