Description
I have advertised before in a similar way and so if this ad seems familiar, that will be why. Over the past year I have been trying to find my ideal selection of cars to retire with and I’ve surpassed my expectations with Daimlers, Lanchesters and two Rovers which both came from long term Rover Sports Register owners, a 1937 10 and a 1946 14. I had quite a selection of older cars including several Riley RMs but have been reducing the numbers of those to make room for the new but older arrivals.
I would still have liked to find a 1935/ 36 Rover 14. Yes, they’re a bit underpowered for the hp rating but I still fancy one. My last purchase of the 1946 14 has confirmed that as it is superbly original and gives me a 6 cylinder Rover to go a bit further with faster so I can still look for the older type of 14 knowing it won’t have to work hard. I’ve also got a 1947 12 so I just need one more to have two “pairs” - pre and post war. However, already having that 14 also opens up another possibility so, with that preamable to set the scene, here’s what I’d like to find.
Either:
A decent or better 1935/ 36 14 saloon which may require some recommissioning or finishing off but no cars in a box of bits or needing major reconstruction:
Or
A 1938 14 drophead in good condition. Obviously, this latter possibility will be in a different price bracket to the earlier saloon but I have a very nice 50s quality car I may consider selling and so I would repay my savings from that if a car in the right condition was on offer.
Any car must have its original registration, transferable or not doesn’t matter but it must be right.
I appreciate there is a drophead coming up for auction but I’d rather pay a private seller decent money than hand over a couple of thousand in basically a handling fee. Also, having bought 9 cars in the past year for cash and sold 4, I think I have a fairly decent idea of where prices should be as opposed to what “the trade” may hope for.
Even if you are not thinking of selling immediately, that would be all right. A lead on the right car for the autumn would be a possibility but similarly, if the car’s right, the price is right and I like it then it would be paid and moved very rapidly. I know a reliable chap in Sheffield who has transported most of the cars I’ve bought from owners as far apart as Kent and Wales.
I’m not a dealer, I work on everything myself and (bearing in mind current events) I’d like to think that if the end comes in a similar way to Nevil Shute’s “On the Beach”, I’d be able to expire knowing I’d worked on and driven the cars I’ve always really fancied. Thank you.
