Being a late R107 SL, the body of this 300SL is galvanised to help alleviate the pressure of the climate on the more sensitive aspects of the structure such as the Bulkhead. By the end of the R107’s era, Mercedes-Benz had also refined the handling and introduced a slightly different suspension set up and look to the model. The later R107 models continue to command higher prices due to these reasons.
Known to SLSHOP for over eight years, this Barolo Red (540) 300SL has lived a rich road-going life, with several committed owners at the wheel who have gone to great lengths to keep this R107 in a usable and glistening state. Beyond the standard options of heated and electric mirrors, electric windows, ABS and more, the original owner specified leather upholstery, an anti-theft warning device, outside temperature gauge, metallic paint and paintwork preservation. These were expensive options back in the day and highly sought after today.
The deep Barolo Red finish is nicely contrasted by the cream Leather interior, which is in a fair condition with a nicely aged texture to the leather. The cabin is a place to relax and enjoy the summer rays on long and short journeys. Being the M103 six-cylinder, this 300SL is a more economical R107 variant to be used in urban areas as well as on long journeys.
Accompanying the vehicle is a collection of paperwork outlining works carried out over the years, as well as imagery showcasing the vehicle’s use within the Mercedes-Benz community. The high mileage is nothing to be concerned about – when looked after like this 300SL, these engines will continue onwards with little disruption to owner enjoyment.
