A rare opportunity to purchase a 1956 Morgan Plus Four Drop Head Coupe that has recently arrived from the States. Restoration has been started but is in need of completion. This car was recently running; and offers loads of potential for the potential purchaser.

The Plus Four has always been one of the most popular Morgan’s and has had one of the longest production runs since the early 1950’s. The introduction of the Plus Four gave the Four-Wheeled Morgan the performance it had always craved.

The Drop Head coupe has always been something of a rarity, with the factory taking considerably longer to complete each vehicle due to the more complex coachwork required, than on the standard two-seater bodywork.

This 1956 example was despatched from the Morgan Works on the 15th May destined for the New York showrooms of dealer Fergus Imported Cars. The Factory build certificate tells us that the original colour scheme was Ivory with Black leather interior.

The car was in Canada in the 1970’s according to documentation from the Morgan Motor company, and at this time the engine was swapped for one from a TR3A. The documentation that comes with the car tells us that it was purchased as a wreck in 1974 and was restored from the ground up over the next 12 years. In the paperwork that comes with the car are a few photos that show what we believe was the car when it was collected as a project. Amongst the paperwork is a worksheet from JDS engines Ltd, that show’s its engine had an extensive rebuild in 1987.

Please note that this car is left hand drive.

Unfortunately, the restoration was never completed, and the part completed project was shipped back to the UK in 2016. It was correctly imported with all duties paid and comes with a NOVA number as well as the factory certificate, which such be sufficient to get an age-related registration issued for the car from the DVLC once the restoration is completed.

There is plenty of knowledge and support and along with an ample supply of parts, and the simple construction will make this an amply rewarding and worthwhile project that will go to make this a very desirable classic car once completed.
