Description
The Morgan +4 Super Sports No. 4826 is an exceptional model: the second one produced and the first left-hand drive version. It left the factory on June 21, 1961, and was delivered to the importer Fergus Motor in New York, along with No. 4837. There is a striking anecdote surrounding their departure: the hood numbers were reversed, a situation that was met with humor by the factory – “that's Morgan for you.” It remained in the United States until 1992, forgotten in a barn, and only reappeared in 2013 when it was sold following the death of its owner. This particular car was a US car from new. A matching numbers example, it is one of a handful of cars fitted with cream gauge faces, a feature that Morgan used for a very limited time.
An enthusiast, assisted by British specialist Richard Thorne, was searching for an authentic Super Sports. The expertise of Martyn Webb, archivist at Morgan, officially confirmed the authenticity of the 4826, thanks in particular to a handwritten entry in the original Record Book. A complete restoration was undertaken over two years, with instructions to preserve as many original parts as possible—a high-budget job that included rebuilding the car from a new chassis re-stamped with the number 4826.
The goal was twofold: to preserve authenticity and ensure FIA compliance for circuit racing. The PTH was obtained, valid until 2026, with a French collector's registration document. The car features a “matching color” inspired by the legendary TOK 258 from the 1962 Le Mans trials.
Emotions ran high when it returned to the Morgan factory in Malvern, an event covered in a four-page report in MOG magazine.
Since 2016, 4826 has been racing on the track with targeted improvements: Moss gearbox and Salisbury axle from JB Engineering, 42 mm Webber carburetors. Weighing only 870 kg, with excellent balance and durable brakes, it now offers handling that is as accessible as it is powerful—true to the spirit of the original Morgan Super Sports.
Having owned and raced a +4 SuperSport ourselves in the Tour Auto, Le Mans Classic, Goodwood, and in 2-hour races in both the 1960's and 1950's grids, on numerous European circuits, we can assure you that the Morgan +4 is a pleasure to drive, very efficient, with incredible handling, extremely reliable, and very affordable to maintain.
This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a very rare Super Sport, authentic and with a known history.
