BMW E39 540i touring with V8 engine. Two keys. Paintwork in good condition in blue water metallic. Some stone chips on the bonnet – see below for further details. Leather interior in good condition. Complete with original boot cover and dog guard. First registered 14/ 06/ 02. 121, 000 miles. Full service history and lots of paperwork describing maintenance. Four good Falken tyres. MOT until April 2023.
I have owned this beautiful BMW for three years and covered 12, 000 trouble free miles. This 540i touring is comfortable and cruises effortlessly. If you are looking at this, you will know that the E39 540i touring is also relatively rare. Low mileage examples now seem to have reached the bottom of the depreciation curve and seem to be slowly increasing in value. I am only selling because I have two other, newer BMWs plus a classic car that seldom gets driven. It’s time to slim down the collection.
The car comes with a good service record with service history at the following intervals: 18, 419 miles, 30, 473 m, 41, 843 m, 56, 992 m, 72, 432 m, 78, 811 m, 85, 571 m, 101, 309 m, 109, 591 m, 115, 125 m and 121, 824 miles. Apart from the last three services, I have had the gear change switch replaced (at 118, 140 miles). I have also had the tailgate tidied up as corrosion was starting to appear in each lower corner of the rear screen – a common fault on the E39 touring. The tailgate looks fine now but the work is not guaranteed and may need further remedial work at some point.
The other point to note is that the bottom edge of the driver’s door is slightly corroded and the bonnet has some stone chips. If I were keeping the car I would get the alloys refurbished. Other than that, the paintwork is in excellent condition – all other doors are fine and there is no corrosion in the wheel arches or the jacking points. The interior is clean and tidy with no rips, tears or cracks in any of the leather seats. The pixels on the radio are dead but, once tuned to the station you want, it works well.
Overall, this BMW E39 is well built. It is well maintained and relatively low mileage. It’s a lot of car for the money!
