Another of this weeks part exchanges is this super clean fully rebuilt classic mini. It has covered just 46000 miles from new however it was subject to a full replacement engine and gearbox from a 1275 mg metro during the course of the rebuild, the fresh engine having covered just 200 miles since installation.
The last owner had had the vehicle 5 years and embarked on a full restoration and had to reluctantly part exchange it with us for an earlier vehicle due to the fact that it doesn’t qualify for ULEZ exemption.
The shell required many repairs in the usual mini problem areas including a new boot floor, full front end, subframe, floorpans , doors resigned etc .
The car has been fully overhauled mechanically too and the old engine which was only a 998cc unit with an automatic gearbox has been replaced with a fully rebuilt MG Metro 1275cc unit and manual gearbox , engine received new con roads and 020 pistons, new shells and bearings along with all the gearbox internals rebuilt with parts from guessworks. In addition to this it has had new tyres, radiator and various ancillaries along with new brakes , exhaust and suspension . It really has been a no expense spared rebuild. It also had a brand new subframe fitted too.
To rebuild one of these cars to this specification and standard would easily be in excess of £11/ 12k . It owes us £7k in part exchange and not our usual stock profile so we are just looking for our money back.
If I am being hyper critical there are a few small jobs to do to finish the vehicle off : it wants the rear parcel shelf speakers fitting along with a new stereo head unit, the foam needs replacing in the drivers seat base cushion and the cloth does not match on the passenger seat perfectly (although the customer has promised to post this to us) . Some of the carpet in the front footwells doesn’t fit perfect either ; though for the cost I think I would be inclined to put a full new carpet set in .
