1993 Mercedes-Benz 300-24 SL R129, only 87k miles + Full Service History/ Handbooks + MOT April 2023
Welcome to the listing of my stunning mercedes-benz 300-24 sl r129 in the best colour combination (metallic sterling silver with grey, and a navy soft top). this is a rare early r129 with the beautiful two-tone coachwork, similar to its r107 predecessor. The car is close to 30 years old yet has only covered 87k miles, covering only c. 10k miles in the last 10 years.
it comes with the original mercedes-benz handbook pack and service history, all the old mot’s and stacks of mercedes garage bills, full set of original x4 key/ remotes, original mercedes toolkit and warning triangle. There is an incredible amount of paperwork that comes with this car!
there were two previous owners. The car was originally bought in jersey, and sold to the second owner in 1997 in kensington, london, who kept it for 21 years until 2018, when i bought the car from him (registered keepers show more due to husband/ wife transfers which i have all the documentation for). i have now owned it for c. 4. 5 years and have thoroughly enjoyed ownership of it.
the car comes with a long mot till april 2023, and had no advisories at the latest mot.
mechanically the car runs very well. The gearbox is excellent and the engine is very smooth and is so quiet when idling. The car is very fast despite its age and weight thanks to its six cylinder straight-six engine. Please no not confuse this 300-24 sl to the 300 sl. It drives beautifully and is a credit to its previous owner who has clearly driven it with respect. I had the auxiliary belt replaced as a precaution in the past 2 years, and it has had a new battery in the last 12 months too.
the car is generally in excellent condition. It is in original condition so it does have minor imperfections but the car is almost 30 years old so this is to be expected. The two areas it needs most attention is to the driver’s seat bolster, and also some of the stitches on the soft top window edge have come apart. It costs £295 fully fitted for a new soft top window set. The remote central locking has started being temperamental very recently. This happened about a year ago when i took it out after the winter, but after a few weeks of regular use it corrected itself; I am hoping this is the case again. The mot testers always comment on how clean/ rust free the underside is every year.
i searched for a very long time for an r129 in original condition that has been looked after, with all the documentation, and had all the common faults addressed. The r129 connoisseurs will know these expensive common faults (wiring harness and roof module), but the previous owner had both replaced shortly before he sold it to me, hence why i bought this specific example for that peace of mind. Do not buy an r129 if these have not been replaced!
the car is very clean inside and out, and has just been professionally valeted.
these are only going up in value now. I am only selling due to lack of use.
private registration plate is still assigned to the car (not included in the sale), please enquire if you wish to run any history checks using the registration plate.
classic car insurance is only c.£100 a year!
