This 1974 Mercedes-Benz 600 is one of the companies most iconic cars, it's an absolute masterpiece. This particular example is in exceptionally good condition and ready for immediate use. It was delivered new to South Africa in 1974 and remained there until 2015 before being imported to Europe. The dry climate and the high level of regular care and maintenance this car received, means it's one of the best available. It really is difficult to find fault with it.
I've personally been involved in the restoration, sale, purchase and maintenance of more than a dozen 600's over the last 5 years. This car is one of a kind. It's been used regularly, correctly stored and maintained all of it's life. Every inch of this car from the underside to the chrome work presents incredibly well. There's zero rust and the car has never required and does not require restoration or any remedial works. Just buy it and drive it.
The exterior paintwork is Pine Green Metallic (862G), it has a deep shine and excellent colour match all around and the chrome work is perfect. All panels are perfectly straight and panel gaps are as they left the factory. The wheels are fitted with correct Continental tyres and colour coded hub caps.
The interior is 100% original and has never been restored and is almost perfect. It's upholstered in Mushroom Velour with matching carpets and sheepskin over mats. Inside the front arm rest you'll find the often missing thermos flask and shot glasses. The wood trim has a perfect lacquer finish and is full of colour. This particular car is fitted with two of the most desirable extras, Air Conditioning and a Sunroof, even on the worlds most expensive car these were a cost option.
Mechanically the car starts and drives exactly as it should. The air suspension fitted to the 600 meant it handled and drove better than any of the competition of the time. Even today it's surprising how well it handles energetic driving. The hydraulics which operate the windows, roof, boot and ancillaries works as it should. The brakes feel like they could stop a train.
