1953 Jowett Javelin saloon.
Originally beige with red leather upholstery.
This car was built in 1953 and allocated by Jowett Cars to 'Coventry & Jeffs' No. 2 Depot, Lansdown Garage, Clifton Road, Bristol on 27th December of that year. It changed hands in 1972 and the current keeper is understood to have acquired it in the 1980's as a restoration project.
The current owner has kept the vehicle dry stored and has invested many hours across the last 40 years, completing the majority of the most time-consuming renovation works himself (he is a retired engineer, now in his 80's). The chassis has been fully rebuilt, as has the engine and most of the cars running gear. Other than the front grill, the car is believed to be mainly complete, and the parts, from our observations, seem to have been diligently wrapped, boxed or labelled. The fuel tank has been rebuilt. Some chrome parts and the un-attached rear wing require further work before being placed on the car. The original VIN plate is safely held in the cars file.
The original 4-digit vehicle registration number is not guaranteed to be re-allocated to this vehicle by DVLA. The car does come with a couple of documents relating to communication with the club and DVLA as part of efforts made in the late 1990's and early noughties to apply for a V5 registration document, which so far has not been issued.
For somebody with the skills to finish the renovation works, this should be a very attractive proposition, having had so much work completed already, and to what looks to be a very good standard.
