Classic MK2 2002 Mazda MX5 1600, LEATHER seats

COLOUR MATCHED AND SOUGHT AFTER FACTORY HARDTOP IN SUPERB ORDER AVAILABLE FOR EXTRA. (£475)

A super, tidy, inexpensive sports car.
MOT late May 2023
Fresh oil/ filter, air filter, spark plugs HT leads and PROPER repairs to the all too often corroding front chassis rails. (photos available)
Not messed with or got at, Leather seats, stainless rear exhaust.

To many the MK1 and MK2 MX5's are the original pure sports car. Classic rear wheel drive, beautifully balanced and robust mechanics. The 1600 is the original size engine and in a car of this size still a nippy package.

There is some history, the handbook and it is still sporting the original audio.

It benefits from a Hood cover/ tonneau.
Chrome bar behind seats.
Grill mesh to protect the radiator.
Currently showing about 106, 000 it drives great and passed straight through the mot in May.
Bodywork
Bright metallic blue paint in good order with only a few minor marks here and there, nothing that stands out immediately. The worst of these being a small dent on the rear quarter just above the bumper and a few dings in the plastic rear bumper.
There is not much in the way of common flaking laquer though a little where it has had a hardtop on it for long periods.
There is very little rust/ corrosion evident and little in way of stone chips. The rear wheel arches and sills are good and still show factory spot welds though I think a little repair may have been carried out to them before my ownership. They are better than most MX5 of this age though.
The front chassis rails are notorious on these cars, rotting from inside out. They looked good when I got it near 3 years ago until I really hit them!! so with photographic evidence they have on both sides been repaired, cutting out rot and rebuilding correctly. This was not an MOT style patch, but a proper repair for a car worth preserving long term.
The underside has been waxoyled once by me but would benefit from another go to really soak it now if you wish. This depends if you want a classic to preserve or a cheap runabout.
All trim etc. is good as are the smart alloy wheels with matched pairs of tyres on front and back and lots of tread.
The hood is a good quality vinyl with no rips or wear evident and a heated glass rear window. It may be original I am unsure.
It is what it is.......... very tidy, very presentable and good value.
Interior
As with the rest it is obvious it has been cared for. It had black leather seats which are pretty much unmarked just the slightest of wear to the drivers seat bolster. Perfect dashboard, carpets, boot etc.
The steering wheel, handbrake, gear lever etc are not worn badly either.
It has its hood cover for when folded as well as the boot carpet, board, jack and space saver wheel.
Mechanical
The car has some history but more important for an inexpensive car is that it drives well, has no vices with crisp gears and brakes along with a fresh service and recent mot.
It has a stainless steel rear exhaust, new oil, filter and air filer plus spark plugs and HT leads. I have inspected the cambelt with video evidence and decided not to change it now.
Four tyres are in matched pairs with lots of tread, barely worn.
The alloys are almost unmarked.
It drives exceptionally well, braking straight and pulling cleanly.
What Would I Fault?...... everything on the car seems to work as it should even the original CD/ Cassette player.
The underside is good but more preservation of wax would not go amiss if you are that way inclined.
The various black painted brackets etc under the bonnet would look much better re painted!
It has only one key.
Summary
This car is a modern classic car, it is 20 years old. It is sold as it is and I am unable to warrant it other than to honestly say it has driven well for me over about 1000 miles or so whilst enjoying it. My 22 year old daughter used it and loved it so much she now has her own MX5!
If you are one of those people that believes £1850
buys an as new car 20 year old sports classic with a long MOT and no prospect of future maintenance for years then then this is not the car for you. If however you want an inexpensive very smart open top giving entry level MX5 ownership with a huge club to join if you wish this could be just right.
It is ready to drive away and with the Hardtop a superb all year car if you wish. The hardtop is £475 and they are sought after.
I have enjoyed using this, it is registered to me and it makes me chuckle, when collecting my daughter from school there was more interest from parents and kids alike in it than for modern very expensive sports cars parked next to it!

Revival motors is a very part time business which deals in classic cars and motorcycles of a type I like…………. turning a hobby into a very part time vocation I actually enjoy. I am always happy to discuss my vehicles which usually I have used and will always point out any known faults, issues or areas that could be improved.
