1970 Ford Galaxie presented in ‘Chicago Police’ livery
Features working blue flashing lights with flashing headlights and siren
Subject to engine works in June 2022 at a cost of over £1000
The Galaxie was built in North America by Ford from 1959 through to 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford's range in an attempt to capture the excitement of the Space Race in period. Billed as “the newest since 1949”, Ford’s Galaxie underwent a major restyle for 1965, emerging with sharper, cleaner lines devoid of the excessive chrome ornamentation of earlier generations. The Galaxie’s new interior came with more luxury features and, for the first time, coil sprung rear suspension dramatically improved the ride. There were several trim levels available, including the intermediate 500 series (named after the 500-mile NASCAR events dominated by the big Fords), the sporting XL range or the luxury-oriented LTD.
Manufactured in 1970, this particular Galaxie is offered for sale as a ‘Chicago Police’ homage vehicle with, you guessed it, working sirens, blue flashing lights and flashing headlights. Imported to the UK in October 2021 and purchased by the current owner from a friend of his as a fun vehicle to take to the golf course, this Galaxie is mated to a Ford 302 cu ‘Windsor’ V8 with a 3 speed automatic gearbox. Now displaying 78, 402 miles on the odometer, ‘LWT 295H’ was recently subject to works totalling just over £1000 in June 2022 consisting of the cylinder heads being removed, valves re-ground, replacement gaskets and push rods and a service, this Galaxie is offered with the invoice for this work as well as its UK V5C document. The vendor rates the condition of the bodywork, engine, electrical equipment, paintwork and transmission as ‘Good’, with the interior trim ‘Poor’.
