…………………….. SORRY, RESERVED FOR DEREK………………………
If you know your BMW Airheads, you’ll know doubt be well aware of this particular model.
It is of course, the increasingly rare R65LS. Designed by Hans Muth (designer of the original Suzuki Katana) the model was only produced in limited numbers between 1981 and 1984, and differ from the standard R65 in many areas over and above the obvious styling changes. These include the unique wheels, lower handlebars, larger rear brake, twin front discs, etc.
This particular example is a matching numbers, UK bike, delivered to its first custodian from Bryant’s BMW, in April of 1985. The history folder bears witness to comprehensive maintenance over the years, and is complete with many old MOT certificates, original dealer service / handbook, etc. Paperwork supports the genuinely low 32k miles from new, and a speedo replacement in 1999. The wheels have recently had a professional restoration, including new bearings and Avon Roadrider tyres.
The bike starts well from hot or cold, and quickly settles to a quiet idle, with non of the usual Boxer smoke. Out on the road, i can confirm that it pulls well, and rides like a good Boxer should. As a shorter rider myself, I found the re sculpted “Katana” style just right. Handling is certainly improved with the addition of a set of Hagon shocks.
All in all, a nice example of one of the rarest Airheads, and will be supplied with a fresh MOT, ready to enjoy. Complete with HPI clear certificate. Start up / walk round video available on request.
