motodrome are pleased to offer this exceptional 1970 Ford Cortina 1600E, finished in it’s original colour of Fern Green metallic, set off by a full set of period Dunlop D1 alloys replacing the original Rostyles.
This one has truly exceptional provenance. It’s had just the one private owner since 1989, and he bought it from his brother. It underwent a full professional body restoration in 1990 including new inner and outer wings, slam panel, and front valance (in total 39 new panels) before a full repaint in the original colour, and, nearly 33 years on, it still looks superb, helped by both careful ownership and having been waxoyled 4 times subsequently.
The original owner, for it’s first 10 years, kept up a written log of it’s travels and maintenance, and this tradition has been carried on by subsequent owners up to now. The history file is immense, and up to date, and includes such gems as the original new car purchase invoice and a photo album showing it’s slightly down-at-heel condition when purchased, and detailing the 1990 restoration. And no, going from old pictures it doesn't appear to have ever been fitted with a vinyl roof or over-riders.
I’ve rarely seen such a comprehensive history file and it reflects on what is clearly a well-loved car.
Odometer reading 44000 miles, although to avoid any misunderstandings we’re selling it as ‘mileage known incorrect’ as various bills (including one for a reconditioned engine in 1986 when it was showing 86000 miles) would indicate it’s probably on it’s second time around the clock. However the MOT history would indicate it’s done 10000 miles since 2005.
It looks stunning, and drives absolutely beautifully as well – I can’t get enough of it, and neither can the public if the reactions I get driving through Henley are anything to go by. Everyone of a certain age has happy memories of an old-skool Ford!
