1987 Mercedes 420 SL R107
Finished in signal red with black check sport cloth interior.
Only 40, 600 miles and 1 previous keeper from new.
Supplied new 16th April 1987 by Mercedes main agent Caffyns PLC of Dorset to a Mr Foot, a local Dorset poultry farmer. The original order form, which is present in the history file shows that the order was placed on 18th November the previous year to delivery. There is a very nice letter included in the history file from Mr Foot on a business letterhead. This confirms that the car was always kept in a garage and only ever came out when the sun was shining, and never in the rain. The letter goes on the describe the pleasures of driving the SL with the top down in the Dorset countryside! Also noted in the letter is that the Mercedes garage in Dorset (latterly Mercedes Benz of Dorchester and formerly Caffyns) were the only garage to have serviced the car. This is also confirmed by the stamps in the original service booklet.
Mr Foot retained the car for over 30 years, at which point the car was acquired by a a most fastidious collector, who's collection at this point consisted of purely Mercedes cars with very low mileage and ownership and always of the highest calibre. One of the first jobs carried out in readiness to form part of the collection was an extensive detailing programme, which involved many hours of work with attention to the underside as well as the usual paint correction and engine detailing. The car also had the bulkhead inspected and and treated by the SL Shop. Various other small details were addressed while it was in their workshop to bring the car in line with the collectors exacting standards.
Comes complete with a history file dating back to the aforementioned original order form. Also included are tax discs back to the very first, various MOT certificates and service invoices, SL Shop bulkhead certificate, original stamped service booklet and handbooks (in correct M-B pouch), toolkit and spare keys. Original Caffyns tax disc holder, keyring and number plates are still present. A very proper example indeed.
