With us at RFH Classics is this stunning 1984 Mercedes 280 SL Auto Convertible finished in Signal Red with Black Leather Trim. The R107 version of the SL range is a truly classic shape and perhaps made most infamous by 80's TV programs such as Dallas and Heart to Heart. The particular car has only had 3 previous owners and comes to us from long term family ownership where it was the subject of a good restoration job. Although badged as a 300 SL, this 280 SL has the straight 6 engine under the sleek bonnet which was a proven engine first introduced in 1974 as the alternative to the V8 power and despite the smaller displacement, it offers ample power and acceleration thanks to its reduced weight under the bonnet. Turn the key and the 180bhp engine runs beautifully and is matched to automatic gearbox making it quite a spritely roadster.
Presented in possibly one of the best colour combination the car comes with the very period Mexican Hat Alloy Wheels and a colour coded Hardtop. Prior to the car going for sale it has been with our local Bosch specialist who have been through the car and set up the fuel injection system along with giving it a service ready for sale. Inside the car you will find the Black trim, which is in excellent condition, is really off set by the Red carpets fitted. The paintwork is in lovely condition with a deep shine and the chrome trim is equally as nice. When you sit behind the wheel with the roof folded down it is hard not to get a feeling you are driving something special.
