Lot 30
1949 MG YA
Reg: DSL 801
Chassis no. Y/ 5773
Engine no. XPAG/ SC/ 15611
The MG YA is a small British saloon from the immediate post-war era, although it did have pre-war origins with the initial Y prototype originating before the outbreak of hostilities in Europe. Just over 6, 100 YA saloons were produced between 1947-1953.
This 1949 saloon received a ground up restoration in Old English White as part of an extensive project between 2002-2005. Purchased by the current owner in 2002, restored over those three years with standout maroon interior, it has since been enjoyed as a weekend car as well as being used in a number of weddings. The 20-year-old restoration has held up well and the car shows just a few age-related imperfections. The vendor reports that it drives well and is mechanically in good shape, although 1st and reverse gears are a little noisy. The sale includes a current V5C document showing just two previous owners, as well as a number of old V5’s and MOT’s. There is also an album of pictures showing the car’s previous extensive restoration. Further documentation provides details of older owners, parts and servicing receipts as well as what appear to be a number of technical manuals for the car, both copies and originals. The combination of cream exterior with maroon interior really sets this car apart from other Y types.
Estimate: £6, 000 - 8, 000
