SPECIFICATION
The SL portrays a clear image of 90’s premium luxury, with features that include electric front seats, heated front seats, power folding door mirrors, climate control, remote central locking, electric roof, convertible windbreak, electric roll over bar, CD player and colour coded body mouldings & bumpers. The vehicle also comes complete with 4 remote keys. Most importantly, the SL is fitted with the highly sought after 17-inch AMG five spoke alloy wheels, which truly finish the appearance of the vehicle.
BACKGROUND
A late registered model of 1999, with just 5 previous owners and 88k miles on the clock. The SL comes complete with the original service book containing 12 stamps and a folder of receipts.
MECHANICAL
Whilst some may favour an SL with a bigger engine, the SL280 was well regarded for its refinement and economy. Performance was not to be smirked at either though, as the 2. 8 V6 produced 201hp and would see 0-60mph in under 10secs. Out on test the SL holds the road well and the 5 speed auto gearbox delivers a smooth driving experience.
EXTERIOR
The paintwork must be one of the best features of this R129, as it truly presents in excellent condition. The vehicle has without doubt been well cared for over the years and is a testament to the prior owners. The colour of all panels remains bright and is free of any markings or damage. The wheels are all in excellent condition, free of damage and are also absent of the commonly found imperfections in the chrome outer rim. The electric roof works as intended and is also in great condition. The factory hard top comes with the vehicle and matches the condition of everything else.
INTERIOR
The black Nappa leather has aged incredibly well and besides very light wear to the driver’s seat, is in excellent condition throughout. Although some were built without them, this SL does have the 2 rear seats fitted and both looks as though they have been barely used. At time of inspection all electronic features perform to specification, which is often found not to be the case with an older SL.
Widely tipped as the next classic Mercedes to see values rise, this example of fine condition and provenance, surely has to be the one to buy.
