Description
Up for sale Mercedes 280SL in the best colour combination, signal red and black interior.
In fabulous condition, comes with a hard top and useful stand in the boot, lots of receipts for recent work carried out only 500 miles ago, the bulkhead was checked and rectified by previous owner and during ownership this SL has been well maintained, at some expense by Edward Hall Mercedes, see the invoices are in the photo gallery.
Aside from a blemish around one headlamp and the petrol filler cap, the bodywork is in excellent condition and has been recently polished at great expense. The black retractable hood has been replaced recently and is new. Factory Mercedes Benz alloys with good tyres and a full size spare.
Also comes with a wind deflector which makes no end of difference to the buffeting experienced when driving with the top down. Fitted with rear seating, the driver’s seat base cover has been partly worn but the rest of seats are in great condition, I have replacement cloth that will come with the car, the wood veneer is in good condition too, fitted with headlamp wash wipe and everything works, including the gauges, instruments, heater controls, electric windows and central locking. Also recently fitted was a £400 DAB Radio and bluetooth phone kit.
Mechanically this SL is in great shape, Mercedes M110 engine, Bosch fuel injection, Power steering, Independent front and rear, double wishbones, vented front disc brakes, solid rear discs
The front engine, rear wheel drive configuration is the perfect set-up. People will tell you the V8 is the one to have, but V8s are thirsty and make the front ‘nose heavy’. The 280 model is good for 100mph plus and 0-60 in under 10 seconds and does far far more MPG!
Over £3, 500 has been spent on this SL to get her running as she should, she is now classed as a historic vehicle (being over 40 years old) so NO ULEZ charge, NO MOT required and NO ROAD TAX, I insure her for £150 a year!
From Dallas and Dynasty through to Hart to Hart, these classics were the height of fashion, R107 SL’s were built to an engineering specification, not a number on a spreadsheet, this is one of the solid and well maintained ones!
