Badge engineering was a fact of life in the BMC by the 1950s and the 15/ 50 was a prime example of this being almost identical to the MG Magnette. However, both cars had seperate personalities, with the Wolseley being the the luxury option. Those who purchased the Wolseley appreciated how they sat a little higher off the ground, behind the traditional Wolseley grille. Luxury features included the option of wood veneers opposed to the plain but well equipped dash.
The 1958 Wolseley we offer here is probably one of the most extraordinary Classic cars we have ever had the pleasure of handling. It is often said that we are only custodians of Classic cars. Well that is certainly the case with this particular car, which believe it or not has only had 2 owners from new or to be absolutely accurate 3, albeit that the first 2 were from the same family. Furthermore the first owner kept the car for the first 14 years of it's life. The original BMC service book shows that the car was serviced by the supplying dealer, Prince Garages of Loughborough, 5 times up to 1966 by which time the car it had only covered 3, 211 miles. Old MOTs in the history file show that by 1974 this total had risen to15, 729 miles and it would appear that the Wolseley was then put into storage where it was to remain for many years. In 2004 the car was MOT'd again at 15, 779 and was then put back into storage. The last owner, a serial collector of classic cars, acquired the car in 2015 and put it through another MOT by which time the mileage was 15, 941. Sadly the speedometer has since stopped working but we are assured that the car had done no more than 330 miles whilst in his hands. However we would strongly advise any prospective purchaser to inspect the car and let his or her eyes be the judge of the cars condition and possible mileage covered since new.
Remaining in wonderfully original condition throughout with the panel gaps as good today as they would have been when it first left the factory. Supplied with its original service book, original buff log book, original handbook and BMC workshop manual. The car would make a superb addition to a BMC collection.
