Built by Taylor Automotive Ltd for our client over several years to his unique, very high specification this CAV GT40 is now for sale.
This car is a development of the original CAV GT40 with improvements to all areas of the car. First registered in 2021 having completed the IVA process.
The car has been built as a capable track car that can also be used on the road with ease.
Be under no illusions this is a very special car. Yes from the outside it does look like just another GT40 and it shares a lot of it’s architecture with the famous Le Mans winning car but this car is more than the sum of its parts. Many GT40 replicas utilise some high quality components but rarely are they put together with so much consideration. Each system of this car has been scrutinised and reengineered to upgrade it, from the chassis to the body catches no part has been left untouched! Small details make a big difference, for instance the engine is lower and further forward than a standard CAV GT40. This improves the weight distribution which in turn improves the handling. It also allows the copy of the original GT40’s right hand gear change to fit in the chassis (very rare in a CAV GT40). The stainless steel monocoque was good from the factory but as the years have gone on some weak areas have come to light. These areas have been strengthened as have other areas, for example the central spine in this car is a structural member not just a piece of trim to make it look like a GT40. The coolant pipes have been moved to allow larger fuel tanks, the Electric air conditioning system was spec’d to improve weight distribution and the list goes on!
The result is a car that deserves to be its own car – not just another GT40 replica. Have a look at the spec list and the build quality then compare it to other GT40 replicas on the market and you can see where the money has been spent.
On the road this car urges you to push on, this car is not for dawdling in traffic. The weight of the controls inspires confidence to go faster. The noise from the quad Weber’s barking at your back never becomes tiresome and the exhaust note transports you to the start of the Mulsanne straight at Le mans – this is a driver’s car!
