SUMMARY

Originally owned by Lord Darzi Of Denham, who bought the car new in 1993. During his 20+ year ownership, he only covered 27, 000 miles and it was registered to him, but c/ o Joe Macari Sportscars, who looked after the vehicle on his behalf; this also served to protect the owners personal details too. I believe this is quite a common practice among higher profile people who have very little time to be bothering with the intricacies of looking after a motor vehicle.

My involvement with this car goes right back to 2016 when I bought it from the enthusiast owner, who’d bought it from Lord Darzi. I’ve previously bought a couple of his cars over the years, and he has a knack of finding exceptional low mileage vehicles. I then first sold it in 2016 to a Mercedes Club Member from East Sussex, and again in 2017; to another Club Member from Wakefield who’s owned the car ever since, right up to May of this year when he decided to rationalise his car ownership.

It's completely obvious to anyone that car has led a very charmed life, and also that it’s been extremely well maintained too. However as is the nature of vehicles with a similar ownership profile, there is little early formal service history from the period 1993-2014. When I first bought this car back in 2016 I admit I was somewhat concerned myself about this lack of history, but one glance at the car, instantly allayed any reservations or doubts I had. At the end of the day you can have all the service history in the world, but if the car itself is a load of rubbish, it means absolutely nothing; after all you can't drive around in the service history booklet, can you? . Naturally I always try to source vehicles in superb condition with excellent provenance, but if it's a choice between the two, I'd chose condition each and every time, and it's in that department this W124 E280 excels; it's also probably one of the best W124's I've ever driven; it's astonishing, and almost like a new vehicle in many respects. Obviously now, five years on, it's built up quite a extensive history file, and one which also clearly addresses all the concerns with a W124 of this vintage, as detailed below.

All ll the jobs done that any discerning W124 buyer could ask about; namely Headgasket, Wiring Loom, Throttle Body have all been done, as well several other items. All these jobs were carried out by respected Mercedes Specialist IN-Autos of East Grinstead in December 2016, at a cost of over £4K! (Invoice included.) In addition to this, I've also just replaced the water pump, the timing cover oil seal and rocker gasket, as well as having a full service carried out too, so the car is ready to go and is completely free of any of the annoying leaks so often found on M104 engined cars

This is a very special car indeed and one that has won several awards, among which includes a Concours win at The Mercedes Club Nation Event at Gaydon in 2022. As this was essentially the first club Concours after almost two years of Lockdowns, when a good proportion of the population basically had a couple of years of enforced boredom to prepare their cars, it can be seen as quite some achievement, as competition will have as a been very stiff.

Bodywork is also equally superb, and all the problem areas associated with the W124 (wings, inner wings, jacking points, jacking tubes, sub frame mountings) are all superb condition, This is one of the best preserved facelift W124's I've ever seen, probably down to the fact that the vehicle has spent most of its life in London in an underground parking garage, then more latterly kept in a large dry garage by its enthusiast owners, and only used on dry days. To further ensure the vehicle stays like this, the underside and cavities have been treated with a generous coating of Dynax UC.

Mechanically, as you'd expect of quality automobile having only such a small mileage, the car is equally fantastic, and with the recent considerable expenditure mentioned above, its probably one of the best sorted W124's out there. The M104 straight six is a match made in heaven for the chassis of the W124, it's low down torque and super smooth power delivery perfectly complements the W124's chassis dynamics and road manners.

Finally, interior; what can I say; wow! This is almost like new. It's in incredible condition and really is a very nice place to be, and really does reminds you just how cheap today’s car interiors feel in comparison. Everything feels like it will last forever, and as you'd rightly expect everything works exactly as it should.

So there you have it, I, and quite a few others for that matter think this is probably one of the best, and lowest mileage W124 saloons available, and moreover it’s the ultra desirable ultra smooth six cylinder variant. Whoever is the next custodian of this car is in for a real treat, and won't have to spend another penny on it for a very long time. The W124 was awarded Honest John's Best Classic award, and the best examples like this one will clearly demonstrate why it rightfully earned and deserved that prestigious award.

THE MTSV DIFFERENCE

Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business. To read more, see my website at - details above

Any other questions, please feel free to contact me. I'm a firstly and foremostly a true car enthusiast of many, many years, and a Mercedes Club Member, so it's a pleasure to meet and speak to like-minded people.

Finally, I'm situated in Keighley, West Yorkshire (Postal Code Area BD21) which is approximately 11 miles from Skipton, and 20 miles West of Leeds.
