Back in 2013 I sold this car to the last owner, and it has been on some journey since.
The history file looks like something from a Biblical Epic from the 1950's. It's huge. Luckily there is a 6-page digital summary that I can send you that will ONLY take you 30 mins to read.....
You can't possibly cover the work that this car has had been done over the past 10 years in a short advert format, but I will endeavour to cover the main areas in this write-up to give you an idea.
The previous owner is an experienced mechanical engineer and because of that has many friends and associates that he can bring in for anything he needed help with.
Summary:
Back in 2013, the first area to be tackled was the paint as the car was showing one or two stone chips, nothing too serious, just what you'd expect of a well-looked-after, 61, 000-mile Chimaera (I still have the photos of the car back then, and it looked very smart other than the nose was chippy.) but the owner decided that a full repaint in its original hue of Jaguar Platinum Grey was in order.
In 2014, whilst jacking the car up to investigate a small coolant leak, he noticed a tiny area of surface corrosion on the central chassis rail, so it was decided the time was right to lift the body and carry out a full chassis restoration, including all new bushes, mounts, drop links etc. The chassis was shot blasted, zinc primed and powder coated by the same company who do Shmoo chassis work, so I know it was done well.
This still wasn't enough to satisfy John's (The last owner) thirst for improvements. He felt whilst the engine was out, surely now would be the sensible time to rebuild the engine........ why not? So he did, with parts mainly supplied by V8 Developments, and it does now benefit from one of Ray's MC1 cams.
Winter 2015 was a quieter time for the Chim and John, just a new set of carpets supplied and fitted by Autotrim of Ivybridge.
2016 saw a new hood fitted, along with painting the inside of the boot lid.
2017 saw another coolant leak, so the radiator was taken out and sent for testing, and a two-speed fan was fitted to aid with cooling. New radiator mounts were fitted at the same time.
2018 saw new headlamp reflectors and bulbs.
2019, and injectors were removed and sent away for a refresh.
2020... barely any miles for obvious reasons, but the car still had new pads, grooved and vented discs, and new callipers.
2021, saw new driveshafts, CV joints. (Not that driveshafts were required, I think it was just something to do...).
2022 and the use of the car was negligible, so it only saw the annual service and chassis clean down. (A service and chassis clean down was carried out every winter).
Other things to note:
The car benefits from a more modern Clifford alarm with a remote boot release.
Bilsteins all round fitted.
As you can see, this is a rather special example of a Chim, and I'd encourage you to look past the mileage. It's a car that will make its next owner very happy indeed. It drives just as well as well as it looks and the extensive work would suggest.
All of the above work and much more are documented in great detail in the history file, along with photos and receipts, plus the digital PDF as mentioned above.
The car has been used and enjoyed, so it's not concourse, there are one or two very small chips to the nose now, and the driver's seat is showing some wear, plus a very faint hairline crack is present on the dash veneer. But if you know the way we describe Shmoo cars, you'll know that we like to tell you about everything, and not just the shiny stuff. Make no mistake, this is a really, really good example, and a great opportunity to buy a fully future-proofed Chimaera.
I only wish that all the RV8 cars came to us with this sort of work carried out.
Please contact us for more information on this lovely car.
Based at the Devon location. See the website for a link to maps and postcodes. (Viewing is by appointment).
Happy to look at a px as always if that helps, moderns, classics, motorcycles, anything interesting. :)
