This is an ex. Police BMW R60/ 2 from 1965. Still in its original, first paint and chrome.
The BMW has a lovely patina. It is not a mint condition trailer queen but is guaranteed to turn more heads with its lovely original and unmolested appearance.
Triple matching numbers. Original Bing carburetors correctly numbered in sequence.
4 owners in total after being sold by the Police in 1969: the second owner had the BMW from 1973-2005. Third owner from 2005-2021 and the last until now.
Comprehensive service and overhaul done 5600 kms ago at a total cost of nearly 1500 Euros. Invoices for work and parts accompany the bike.
The engine is silent and smooth running. Easy starter. All gears engage easily. The brakes are very effective.
The paint has some light surface rust in places that can be rubbed down with a bit of oil and very fine steel wool. A polish to finish off, would leave the paint in impeccable original condition. There is one spot of rust on the rear mudguard, just between the seat and the rear hinge. It would be nice to sand down and paint this area. A good painter is able to colour match and blend in, so it can be done as a local repair.
The chrome on the exhaust pipe is tarnished in places. Again, a proper polish would leave them much cleaner. The silencers are in very clean condition.
The special, extra-large capacity petrol tank is believed to have been hand crafted by Karl Heinrich, one of two artisans in Germany producing large capacity aftermarket tanks for BMWs in the 1960s and 1970s. The other being the more known Ernst Hoske. I doubt you will find a petrol tank with a bigger capacity. It has a capacity somewhere between 35-40 liters.
The BMW R60 comes with a set of white Craven pannier bags that fit the original Denfeld rear rack. The panniers have working indicators at the rear.
Registered for the road with current EU registration documents.
