BMW E3, 2. 8L Automatic. LHD. The car was supplied new by BMW St Lô, Normandy. In 1987 it was put into storage for over 30 years, from where I bought it in 2018. I am the second owner. During the last five years it has had a comprehensive restoration which includes the following:
Full engine rebuild including valves, rings, bearings, crankshaft reconditioned;
New radiator, hoses, water pump, viscous fan, starter motor reconditioned, alternator reconditioned;
Carburettors reconditioned; new fuel lines;
New brake master cylinder, new brake hoses, new pads, all callipers reconditioned;
Full new exhaust;
4 new Billstein shocks, new tie-rods, new centre steering arm. All 5 alloy wheels reconditioned (powder coated); 5 new tyres;
New modern Blaupunkt stereo with CD / Bluetooth etc. New correct Hirschmann electric aerial to replace the original.
The paintwork was stripped back and any corrosion was removed and new metal let in. The car is repainted in its original graphite grey. All door mouldings and badges (bonnet and boot) are new. All engine-bay stickers are new and correct.
The interior is original and in exceptional condition. The dashboard is also in perfect original condition and unmarked.
The car has electric windows front and rear and original electric mirrors both sides.
I have photos to show the restoration and numerous invoices for work done. All parts were supplied by classic BMW specialists Walloth and Nesch in Germany.
The car is eligible for historic registration which allows access to emission-restricted zones throughout Europe.
The car drives very well with plenty of power from the straight six engine. It's very well put together, and feels tight and grippy on the road. This is the L-version with slightly more room and is also very luxurious. I had always wanted an E3; it's the original big shark-nosed BMW and in this colour looks satisfyingly sinister! I've made several long trips to Spain, Portugal and England and it has always performed faultlessly. It will have a fresh technical inspection prior to sale.
