Books have been written about John DeLorean. So let?s leave the colorful founder of the eponymous car brand aside for a moment. What remains is a unique car, a beautiful concept and a car that became world famous through the Back to the Future film series. Whether the DMC DeLorean would have become as famous without the movies and still be as loved today, we will never know. This copy is from 1981 and has a number of cool details that later copies no longer had. For example, the car is equipped with the hood of the old type, which was replaced after 1981 for a hood without the fuel tank lid.
The car looks beautiful. The bodywork was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and is a beautiful piece of design. The way the car is built is an equally great masterpiece, the basis is a Y-shaped chassis that was inspired by the Lotus Esprit. Around it is a fiberglass construction on which the stainless steel body is mounted. A wonderful way to build a car. The brushed aluminum exterior gives the DeLorean a beautiful and futuristic appearance and is very sleek with this DMC-12.
The interior is in a remarkably neat condition, something that is not entirely obvious with a DeLorean. The black seat upholstery is in a very neat condition and was also the only color available in 1981, light gray upholstery followed later. The rest of the interior also looks neat. The flat, wide instrument panel is fully functional, something that also applies to the controls and electrical items such as the window controls.
The DMC-12 is powered by a 2. 7 liter V6 engine that produces 132 horsepower and is mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine and transmission are more than up to the task and make the DeLorean a wonderfully relaxed touring car. The technology of this car is neat and the car drives as it is intended. Do not expect a sports car pur sang, more a nice touring car with a sporty character. The car is also equipped with independent wheel suspension all around and excellent brakes and therefore drives fantastic.
The car comes with some documentation, an original brochure and even the originally supplied steel brush with which small scratches or imperfections in the paint could be polished away. Our advice: do not use and leave this unique original accessory in its original paper.
In short, this DeLorean is a very healthy copy of the first year of construction. In addition, this DMC-12 is ready for this summer to provide many pleasant kilometers.
