The Alfa Romeo '2000' was introduced to the general public at the 1957 Turin Motor Show. It was launched as a 4-door saloon and went into production from 1958. The newcomer was placed in a class above the 'Giulietta' and the '1900'.
Although the '2000' carried the same 4 cylinder engine as the 1900, the power was increased to 105hp.
Simultaneously with the Berlin version, Alfa also launched a two-seater open 'Spider' with Touring bodywork. The same technology was used as for the saloon version, but power was increased to 115 hp. Gearshifts are always done with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The 2000 spider Touring was built by Italian Carrozzeria Touring. Carrozzeria Touring has several iconic cars on its record such as: Aston Martin DB4, Aston Martin DB5, Lamborghini 350, Lamborghini 400 GT, Jensen Interceptor and many more.
In 1960, the 2000 range was complemented by a coupé where the bodywork was designed by 'Bertone'. This 'Sprint' was also given the same 115hp engine as the spider.
In 1961, the two-seater Spider underwent some modifications to also be able to pass as a 2+2 convertible.
Production of the '2000' was discontinued in 1962, with only 3443 examples being produced as a 'Spider'.
'Collection by Vermant' is very pleased to offer you this Alfa Romeo '2000 Touring Spider' from April 1961. It is one of the rare 2+2 Touring Spider's from the last year of production which is equipped with its matching 2. 0L strong 4-cylinder, good for 115hp. This power is transmitted to the rear wheels by a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The car left the factory on 10 April 1961, but was sold on 12 February 1962 in New Jersey, America. It was finished in colour code 702 or 'Grigio Biacca' with a black leather interior. Over the years, the car found its way to Belgium and this in the form of a restoration project. Work then commenced in January 2019, during which the entire bodywork was stripped, sandblasted, welded on and then given a new coat of paint in the fantastically beautiful 'Ice blue'.
The entire engine and gearbox were also overhauled, using new pistons and cylinders, bearings, gaskets, etc. A new wiring harness, completely overhauled suspension, new brakes, tyres, wire wheels, etc. complete the overhaul. Finally, the interior and convertible roof were also completely rebuilt, opting for 'Marine blue' in combination with a black roof.
Meanwhile, this stylish classic has covered just 1. 000 km after this 'Nut a Bolt' restoration. Not surprisingly, the Spider is still in exceptionally nice condition!
