Description
Here for sale is my very early build Bedford CF Dormobile.
First registered in 1970 it has all the early model features such as a vented bonnet, no power assisted brakes, single piece propshaft etc, it does have a 4 speed manual gearbox, many early CF?s still used the 3 speed box
As you can see from the pics the van is in good condition, it?s not perfect but it?s good!
It still has all its original interior which being the early Dormobile Romany model on the CF chassis means it has wood furniture rather than Formica.
It?s a 3 berth using the Dormatic seating to make two single beds or a large double and a hammock in the roof, it has a 2 burner gas Hob and grill, a sink, wardrobe, table, gas bottle, leisure battery
Over the last year I have replaced the Radiator, Water Pump, Timing Belt, Ignition System, Three Part Clutch, Propshaft UJ and I have fitted a Stainless Steel Exhaust System.
The van starts and runs well, it?s happy to cruise along at around 50mph but will go faster if pushed, the Speedo reads fast so you?re doing 50 when the Speedo tells you you?re doing 55/ 60mph! The fuel gauge also has a mind of its own so I just fill the tank to the brim every time I use it, so it will be sold with a full tank of fuel!
Please remember this is a 53 year old commercial vehicle. It does not have power steering or power assisted brakes, it has a choke for cold starts
It will not drive like your 3 year old Mondeo!!
The van only has seat belts fitted for the front seats. Rear seat belts could be fitted by a specialist company if required, that is something the buyer would have to arrange.
I am located near Wisbech in Cambridgeshire please bear this in mind when enquiring about the the vanI have owned this van twice! I bought it originally a few years ago and used it for shows, rallies and days out but sold it after a while to a chap in London who kept it for a year or so before deciding to sell it on so I bought it back last year and carried out the work to bring it back to a good usable condition, I have again used it to attend classic car shows and for days out at our local seaside at Hunstanton but I also have several other classic vehicles to run and maintain so it?s time to part with the Bedford again
The van is a superb timepiece of its era and attracts so much attention wherever we go in her. Driving her along on a warm day with the sliding doors open is great fun, and perfectly legal. She is quirky and stylish and makes a change from the usual VW?s that you see everywhere?. she is also a lot less expensive!
Parts are easy to obtain and she is easy to service and maintain
