Regrettably I am not getting the time to enjoy her and I am getting short of space, so I have decided to put my xj6 Sovereign up for sale. Cobalt blue with doeskin hide. I bought her about 2. 5 years ago from an elderly gentleman in his 80s who had taken her to Southern Spain when he retired there about 25 years ago. So having lived in a sunny dry climate she is extremely solid and original, very clean underneath and never welded. However there is a little cracking in the paint in places due to the Spanish sun and a bit of hazing in the paint.
The attraction for me was that it was a dry climate that just needed a bit of recommissioning and cosmetics.
Over the last 2 years I have spent close to £4k on parts and work refreshing parts, £2k of this just recently on rear brake, caliper and handbrake refurbishment as well as full service and some other bits and pieces.
So, now driving nicely, good condition mechanically … just needing some paint rectification really to take her to the next level.
There is a tiny bit of bubbling at the rear screen surround which they all do but this is way better than others I've seen and only a minor fix if attended to, and also a tiny bubble on one door, again a minor fix if addressing the paint. I’ve tried to show these in the pictures. No advisories on the MOT, it’s nothing urgent and could be enjoyed as it is. Floors and sills are very clean and original!
You could rectify the paint in localised areas but I was leaning more towards doing a full a respray at some point. However, I felt it’s better to let someone do that the way they want to as it really depends how far you want to go…
She’s freshly serviced, Mot to end of August 24, now only just over a year away from being Mot & tax and Ulez exempt.
I wish I could keep her, she’s such a beautiful car and there are hardly any of these left now but realistically I don't have the space anymore!About £4k spent on parts, at Fenn motorworks and Jagdoctor in my tenure. Sadly the 86 year old former owner misplaced the history but judging by the interior she was looked after well by him and he told me his collection was stored in an air conditioned garage at his house near Malaga. So bodywork, sills, floors and underside all good and original.
Everything works (including the electric seats and sunroof!) apart from the drivers door central locking unit which controls the other doors and boot solenoids - I replaced some of the other door solenoids but the driver door the part is not available currently at Jagaur, but there is a Swiss company that makes an identical sized equivalent solenoid that could be a cheap fix with a couple of hours diy.
The air con will need a regas if desited - I’ve not needed that.
Original clarion radio cassette too! Headlining is also excellent, which is very rare in these - I suspect it is because this is a rare sunroof model and has extra strengthening there.
Just a few of the jobs I’ve done or had done in the last 2 years
- new bosch battery
- new rare original cibie "airport" fog lights
- 4 new tyres ( only a couple of hundred miles underneath them!)
- new front upper and lower ball joints
- full service - oil, plugs, filters, gear oil, wipers etc...
- new fuel lines sections
- brake fluid,
- new rear calipers, discs, pads
- handbrake rebuild with new parts
- new fuel pump & fuel filter, tank filters
- new fuel solenoids and switchover
- new mudgards
- new wheel nuts
- door solenoids
- the above totalling about 4k spend on top of buying the car!
The right tank has been intermittent, I’ve replaced lots of parts and the switchover works fine now and traced it to the return solenoid, so I had this replaced but this didn’t totally solve it so it must just be the wiring to this solenoid instead, again a cheap fix now for someone who has a bit of time to trace the connection.
All in all a very very solid xj6, top spec and great colours and much cheaper and easier to run than a v12 yet super smooth and relaxing to drive!
NB private plate does not come with the car. She will go back on her original 85 plate, that has glass etched to match too!
