VOITURES VINTAGE Lyon presents this JAGUAR XJ40 SOVEREIGN from November 1988, totaling 137, 060 km.
This is an XJ40 powered by a 3. 6L six‑cylinder engine developing 212 hp, paired with a 4‑speed automatic gearbox.
The order form and the invoice in the file show that our example was ordered and delivered to Marseille, directly to Jaguar France SA (as the parent company was based on Le Prado at that time) in a lovely colour combination: Crimson metallic paint paired with beige leather "Barley".
As an anecdote, the client had his Ford Consul of 1975 repurchased for this Jag which he will keep until 2017 (with 113, 169 km).
Kept in first ownership for 29 years, its owner pampered it, as evidenced by the excellent condition of preservation attached to the maintenance file that accompanies the car: order form, purchase invoice, red stamp, 13 MOT/ technical inspection reports (most untouched) and 47 invoices, not counting the charges we have just carried out in our workshop; here they are in detail:
- Engine wash, underbody wash, drying, identification of leaks
- Rack and pinion overhaul, with replacement of 2 steering boots, coolant
- Alignment geometry
- Replacement of the water pump and seal
- Replacement of the engine temperature thermostat
- Replacement of a hose in the hydraulic system / level
- Replacement of a hose in the power steering system / level
- Recommissioning of the air conditioning with replacement of the dehydrator, then conversion to R134a
- Engine oil and automatic transmission change with sump screen and seals replacement + rear axle
- Replacement of filters: oil, air, petrol

- The rear suspension system has been converted (Bilstein shocks)

The Sovereign version is well equipped, including: cruise control, ABS, limited-slip differential, ride height control, chrome trim around the windows, extended leather on the centre console, air conditioning, headlamp wash/ wipe, electric seats, rear head restraints…
On-board comfort is outstanding given the combination of equipment and its 6‑cylinder engine.
With no costs to foresee, fully serviced, no leaks, and no surprises, it is offered at two prices:
- €15, 000 with Avon tyres, remaining tread, which have 19, 500 km (invoice evidence)
- €16, 500 with new tyres
This option allows replacing the original wheels with classic Jaguar 15" or 16" wheels (or keeping the authenticity of this model by renewing the tyres to 390).
