1972 BMW 2002 E10 Tii in Turkis Green Metallic.

Car was purchased by myself nearly 3 years ago and was fundamentally sound and had been subject to an extensive professional restoration carried out by Jaymic. The colour was changed from its original Chamonix white to the current colour at this time. I have no idea of actual mileage, I changed the 'Lux' instruments to the correct non-Lux instruments.

Wanting it as original as possible, I engaged JFI Classics to look it over and suggest what needed doing to bring it back up to scratch…

Needless to say there was much that needed rectifying, and £14, 000 later in bills (it may actually be more), this is a very very good Tii.

The car is pictured with turbine alloy wheels (another set of newly refurbished steels with £700 worth of tyres is included in the sale).

Summary of what was carried out:

The engine was in need of a rebuild, but rather than go through the ‘unknown’, I purchased what in effect was a ‘new’ engine… Forged pistons, new big ends, new oil pump and sprocket, new rockers, new rocker shafts, new exhaust valve guides, lead free exhaust seats, crankshaft regrind. (Invoice for £5, 000 available). This engine has been registered with the DVLA, and complies with still being a historic car.

To match this, a newly refurbished Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection system was purchased.

The fitting of the engine was carried out by JFI and they were asked to make good anything that ‘wasn’t right’… the list is long, and I have all the receipts.

New lower arms, camber plates, replacement differential (the old one was ‘noisy’), replacement ‘good’ gearbox, powder coating engine components, new battery, new starter motor, replacement front subframe, ethanol resistant. New Tii start valve timer box, new Eibach sports spring set, replacement hoses.

All fairly standard… where I asked for a sympathetic upgrade – Jaymic lowered suspension (its only marginal, but improves the stance), electronic ignition and replace the front brakes with e30 disks and master cylinder… it stops better, starts first time and it goes like stink. In effect this is a slight improvement on an original factory fresh Tii without losing the authenticity (it ‘really’ needs a 5 speed box).

The body work is straight and the paint in excellent condition, the bumpers are ‘OK’, but replacing the rubber / rechrome could be the next job – though it is only noticed because the rest of the car is so good. There are some worn (though not perished seals on the windows).

The interior is excellent with original black vinyl interior (matching front and rear), the drivers seat was worn and replaced with a LHD passenger seat – so is now in excellent original condition.

The after market ‘moulded’ carpet has been replaced with a grey tailored set.

There are extensive pictures of the original restoration in the late 90’s and what has been done in the last 2 years… the history file includes invoices and receipts totalling over £35, 000.
