Welcome to the sale of this lovely little Austin Maestro 1. 6L in Henley blue, two tone over grey - it's a well usable retro car and has been well coveted by Dan Ley-Tjoe, a great friend of mine, for the last 7 years. Dan has always fancied a Metro so let the lovely Maestro go to me to find a loving home for it, so if you think you might be the right one for this car, please read on and get in touch!
Henry the Maestro is well loved and has been well looked after, Dan has put plenty of time and money into this car over the years and taken it to countless shows. I have seen this car myself at shows for years and I've always been fond of a Maestro, they are so seldom seen and certainly peak an interest for many, whether that be good or bad, but this is such an endearing example. I'll start off by saying it's not the prettiest but it's certainly usable, never fails to start, pulls really well, mechanically in fine fettle, no expense spared and a massive load of receipts to back it all up. The 1. 6 is a great engine and while a little thirstier than the smaller engine it has a good 5 speed box and keeps up with traffic well enough. The seats are comfy and we did a couple of long trips recently to see how the car fared and it's a nice little cruiser with plenty of room!
The Maestro has lots of paperwork included, as pictured - there is a service book filled with all the work Dan has carried out on the car since he got it 7 years ago, and there is a wad of receipts for all the items purchased in his ownership also. It would take a while to go through it all but a new timing belt and water pump, new power steering rack, various wheel bearings, tie rod ends, coolant pipes, vacuum pipes, routine servicing every year, tyres and more - this car has had a lot! It has also had its fair share of welding but the work has been completed well and undersealed. Most recently, in February, the car has been serviced again and received new front pads and discs, and the front windscreen was replaced (via insurance and therefore no receipt unfortunately). There is also a manual for the manual choke conversion.
The heater pipes commonly corrode to the heater matrix on these so someone has set out to create new stainless versions - one of these has been purchased and fitted with new o rings to stop the coolant leaking out of all the rusty holes! The car gets nice and warm now! So now you know Henry is well looked after, let's consider his "other side" - he has faded/ bad paint mostly on the tops of the wings/ roof and the rear bootlid and bumper have been replaced and repainted due to a small bump in Dan's ownership. There are a couple other areas the paint is not perfect as pictured. The interior has some dash cracks and some sewed up areas on the sun visors and seats, and some sagging to the rear headlining. The manual choke works perfectly although you have to hold the square end when you pull out the cable otherwise it pulls out the dash. The exhaust is blowing slightly from a couple areas, the clamps look like they could do with changing (I believe some of the exhaust has already been changed in Dan's ownership as I've seen a receipt for one!).
MOT runs out end of Feb 2024 and the next service due around that time/ March time. Please check the MOT history online using the reg in photos. The car has done a fair few miles with Dan but is still by no means high mileage for the age! Ultimately this is a well priced Maestro that may not be the prettiest or the most perfect but has still been well loved and is ready to drive anywhere you want to go. It could be a daily, it could be tarted up and made really nice, it could be used for shows as is like Dan has used it, it could be what ever you want it to be... but it has to be the right home! Another loving home, the right home to continue keeping it on the road and preserving it like Dan the previous owner has for the last 7 years.
