Works touring car evocation, powered by a JE-prepared 4. 2-litre Rover V8 unit.

M. O. T.: October 2024.

Originally a Daytona Yellow 1600 GT XLR, this car was meticulously transformed by an avid Ford enthusiast, Russell Slatcher. The journey began with a thorough strip-down and restoration of the body, which was then adorned with Cologne-style Fibresports wheel arches and an eye-catching ducktail rear spoiler, echoing the design of Ford's classic race cars. It's painted in a striking blue and white scheme, paying homage to the iconic Fords of yesteryear.

The car boasts a heavily modified suspension, incorporating Polybushes and Rose-joints where needed. It features Bilstein struts at the front and a rear setup equipped with single leaf Ford Motorsport springs, enhanced anti-tramp bars, a Panhard Rod, and a limited-slip differential. The braking system includes grooved/ vented four-pot discs in the front and 2. 8i drums in the rear.

Under the hood lies a powerhouse: a 4. 2-litre Rover V8 engine, expertly tuned by JE, with a lightened and balanced lower end, ported and gas-flowed cylinder heads, larger valves, and a high-lift camshaft. This engine is complemented by a Hotwire fuel injection system and a remapped ECU. Power is transmitted through a five-speed manual Rover SD1 gearbox, reaching the road through robust Revolution RFX alloy wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes tyres.

The interior is just as impressive, featuring high-back Cobra bucket seats secured with Sabelt harnesses and a comprehensive roll cage for maximum safety. Other interior enhancements include a range of auxiliary instruments, a competition-style ignition cut-off, OMP alloy pedals, and a Springalex deep-dished steering wheel.

This unique car has been driven just 8, 200 miles since its rebuild, a testament to its preservation and care. It's now available for purchase, accompanied by the magazine article that celebrated its build and a fresh MOT certificate. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of racing history, reimagined for the modern enthusiast.

Experience the thrill of racing heritage with this iconic, custom-built car, reminiscent of Ford's glorious triumph in the 1974 European Touring Car Championship. Drawing inspiration from the legendary racing Capris, this vehicle stands as a tribute to Ford's engineering prowess, featured in a detailed six-page story in a renowned automobile magazine back in April 2000.
