Superbly original interior
The Ford Sierra XR4i, introduced in 1983, was a sporty version of the Sierra model, designed to compete in the performance car market. With its distinctive biplane rear spoiler and aggressive styling, the XR4i aimed to attract drivers seeking both speed and sophistication. Under the hood, it featured the 2. 8-litre V6 Cologne engine, delivering impressive power for its time. The XR4i enjoyed some motorsport success, particularly in rallying, where it showcased its performance capabilities. Despite being discontinued in 1985, the XR4i left a lasting legacy as a symbol of Ford's foray into the high-performance segment during the 1980s.
We are delighted to offer this 1984 Ford Sierra XR4i in white with grey velour interior. First registered in February 1984, the car has had only two recorded former keepers. Our vendor advises that it has recently been restored with a full respray that has colour coded the bumpers and skirts, a not unusual modification in period. The white paint presents really nicely and is a suitably 80s colour for the Fast Ford. At some point it has received a Cosworth-style grille, giving it a more aggressive look, but this could easily be reversed if you were wanting to take things back to standard. Similarly, it looks smart on the recently refurbished RS alloys but it comes with the original “pepper pot” wheels for the purist, including the spare.
Inside, the car remains entirely standard and it’s pleasing to see the original Ford radio cassette in place and some very period tape storage underneath. The dashboard is unusual in being free from any cracking across the top. For forty year old, pale grey seats, the fabric is extremely clean and free from any obvious damage, rips or tears save for a little inevitable wear on the driver’s seat bolster. The rear parcel shelf is present and hasn’t been cut up to house aftermarket speakers. The car benefits from an original factory-fit sunroof.
The car comes with V5C, the current, advisory-free MOT, some past MOTs and tax discs and a book pack containing some manuals. There is confirmation of the work done in 2020 when it received its glass-out respray, new windscreen and headlining, an engine detail and powder coated rocker covers. Mechanical work undertaken at the same time included a full service, new spark plugs, oil and filters, new shock absorbers all round, new front pads, discs and calipers, new brake flexi lines, brake fluid and coolant and new tyres all round.
Certain Fast Fords are regulars at pretty much every show, meet or auction you attend but when was the last time you saw an XR4i, never mind one as nice as this? The next owner will acquire a car that has had significant work in recent years allowing them to simply enjoy the admiring glances wherever they go.
