This highly original, matching numbers Pontiac Firebird in the top of the range Trans Am spec is exceedingly rare in right-hand drive. However, this particular example is rarer still having been converted to right hand drive by the GM dealer (DCH) in Hong Kong before being delivered to its first owner in 1979.
From new the car has only been in the ownership of three families with the second cherishing the car for more than 30 years. It has always been garaged, has very rarely seen rain and has been maintained regardless of cost.
Having been pampered throughout its life, the car is in excellent, unrestored condition overall. It is highly original with the exception of re-trimmed seats, small paintwork corrections and a slightly more vocal exhaust system.
Powered by the dependable 6. 6 litre Oldsmobile 403 (the biggest engine available in ’79), this Trans Am is mated to GM’s strong and reliable TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. This combined with the more desirable (and better looking) Fisher T-tops make it an eminently usable classic and an effortless long-distance touring car.
Immortalised in films such as Smokey and the Bandit, the car is full of character and universally admired. Now offered for sale, this is an unrepeatable opportunity to acquire an iconic, unique, and highly original right-hand drive American muscle car that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face!
