1969 Scimitar GT Coupe – 3-litre V6 ‘Essex’ power unit
This 3-litre version was reputedly capable of 120 mph and with overdrive transmission, it was an excellent long-distance cruiser with 2 plus 2 accommodation and very good luggage capacity.
With styling by designer David Ogle, the Scimitar GT Coupe appeared in 1964. Initially powered by Ford’s 2. 6 litre Zephyr engine, the model received a welcome upgrade in 1966 when the Ford 3 litre V6 ‘Essex’ power unit was fitted until the Coupe was replaced by the GTE in 1970. During 1967, however, a lower priced variant was available being powered by a 2. 5 litre version of the ‘Essex’ unit.
This 1969 example has been particularly well maintained and is offered with extensive and carefully documented history. There is a workshop manual and parts list included. The colour of this car is Reliant Silver Streak.
A rewarding motor car to drive, it has sure-footed handling and vivid acceleration. A rare sight today, it is of very distinctive appearance and certainly has plenty of presence on the road.
The total production of the 3 litre V6 model is given as approximately 591.
An MOT Certificate is supplied, valid until 13/ 3/ 25.
