1977 Ford Cortina Mk3 Pickup For Sale

  • United Kingdom

Description

This rare RHD Ford Cortina Mk3 Pick-up (or Bakkie as they are known in South Africa), is a genuine Ford factory built commercial vehicle which were not available here in the UK. 'Timewarp' is a term that's often overused in the classic car world, however that's certainly the case for this example. Extremely solid, with no welding or unsightly repairs; the pickup has clearly been cherished from new and subsequently dry-stored since landing here in the UK (2021).

Not to be confused with the P100s which were common on UK roads; this is the desirable 'styleside' body with the 'coke bottle' silhouette and the MK3 Cortina rear lights. This is not a conversion and left the Ford factory in this exact configuration/ colour scheme. It dates from a decade before the P100s that we saw here in the UK (and only from the MK5 model onwards). Extremely solid and correct from front-to-back; it even retains the majority of its factory paintwork, save for the driver's door and front O/ S wing which have been refinished at some point to a very high standard. There is no corrosion to report of whatsoever and it needs no work underneath. Panel gaps are all excellent and the paint finish is largely good with excellent patina (which has even polished through to the primer below on some sharp edges). The rear bed is solid and genuinely remarkably immaculate! Clearly never used to move anything heavy, or sharp etc. The wheel arch boxes are literally like new, with no dents or damage.

Mechanics - Original 1600 crossflow 'Kent' with Weber carburettor, 4 speed box and standard running gear. Engine runs extremely well and is nice and quiet, gearbox is great with no crunches, as are the clutch and brakes. We recently fitted a new exhaust tailpipe, otherwise it required absolutely nothing and completed a 340-mile trip to the 'Festival of the Unexceptional' without hesitation, just a few months ago!

Interior - Very tidy and appears all-original, steering wheel clearly had a small split and has been taped. Carpets, spare wheel etc all appear original too. Seats are fabulous, with amazing patina and very little wear.

Wheels - Standard banded steels with hubcaps and chrome trim rings (featuring body-coloured beauty rings), which were apparently peculiar to the 'Deluxe' model.

This rare pick-up is fully UK-registered and is a very uncommon sight here in Britain. Easy to drive and surprisingly fast, 'EDE 228R' offers a genuinely unique opportunity to purchase arguably one the most original Mk3 'Bakkie's' in existence.
