Mazda called the release of the Limited Edition “A once-in-a-lifetime experience”, now you’ve got to opportunity again for one of the cleanest examples.

Being a USA market exclusive this is likely the only Limited Edition model in England and one of very few, or only, USDM spec FB RX7s over here.

LE models benefitted from exclusives such as Chateaux Silver Metallic paint with red pin stripe, 14” forged aluminium wheels, Dolby sound and graphics equaliser, Limited Edition badges. Other features included are cruise control, air conditioning, electric wing mirrors and removable sunroof panel. This particular car benefits from the very rare Mazda IMSA front bumper and rear spoiler, very hard to find now and valuable.

Some differences between this USDM car and a standard UK car are no front plate recess, square rear plate recess in bumper, no rear wiper in the glass, no rear seats, genuine USDM running lights, no side marker indicators, different wing mirrors, LHD, no other models came in this colourway.

This car was manufactured in Japan and sold in America. Previously residing in Georgia then Massachusetts before coming to the UK in approximately 2021. I have a letter from Mazda Homologation Department stating the cars date of manufacture in 1983, meaning you should be able to apply for tax and MOT exemption from next year.

In my ownership it has had a new Koyo radiator, these are OEM mounting but in 3 core aluminium. The original suspension has been replaced with new BC Racing Coilovers. It’s also had a new Exide Premium battery, new headlights, new spark plugs, new fuel filter, new Greddy oil filter and fresh oil.

The car has the original 12a rotary engine fitted with 5 speed manual gearbox, rear wheel drive. Odometer currently reads 146, 312km (90, 914 miles).

The car won ‘Exclusive JDM Choice’ award at their car show and has been at many meets and shows in my ownership. There is also a full 4k YouTube video .

Points worth mentioning are that the idle is around 1800 revs, the idle speed and fuel/ air mixture screws on the carb just want adjusting. The drivers door look unlocks fine but won’t lock with the key, I lean over the passenger seat to lock the drivers door. There is a very small oil leak drip coming from the bottom of the beehive cooler the filter is on, we checked with the endoscope and suspect this just needs a new gasket. Rotary engines use up engine oil by design for apex seal lubricant and the amount of oil usage is normal. The original viscous fan has been fixed on so it spins at the same speed as the engine, louder but it more efficient cooling.

A now 40 year old Limited Edition model presented in beautiful condition inside and out. From Japan, to America, to Scotland and now England. It turns heads wherever it goes and I regularly get kind comments about the car.
A truly special car and it’s been a pleasure to own.
