History of Model
The BMW 6 series E24 was produced from 1974 until 1989, with engines for the 628 through to the M6 ranging from 2788cc to 3453cc.
The final run of cars for the UK market were named the Motorsport Edition, only 180 cars were made in 3 colours, Misano Red, Macau Blue and this the Nogaro Metallic Silver.
Out of all the E24 models this special edition was produced in the lowest numbers only 60 of each colour making it one of the rarest, it is estimated that there are less than 20 of each left.
The Motorsport Edition was fitted with the 3. 4-litre ‘M30’ inline-six, producing 220bhp, driving the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission with a limited-slip differential. However the rumour amongst the BMW ‘community ‘ the 180 vehicles actually produced more than the 220bhp and it was closer to 240bhp.
It was based on the 635 CSi Highline as something of a ‘runout special’ for the E24-generation coupe, the Motorsport Edition was equipped with a number of desirable features as standard, including:
Shadowline exterior trim, ( de-chromed )
Electrically adjustable front seats with 3 setting memory function,
Air conditioning,
High chrome gloss door entry kick-plates.
Hand-stitched Nappa leather upholstery throughout the cabin, door cards, dashboard, gearbox surround.
Rear glass sun blind
Anthracite interior headlining
Limited slip differential
Graduated tinted windscreen
M-Technic suspension
M-Technic 3-spoke steering wheel
Electronic slide and tilt sunroof
Headlamp washers
Electric Windows

Today the BMW E24 : Motorsport Edition is becoming as sort after and prized as the M6, especially if presented in fine order, this example has been described as sitting comfortably between Concours and A1 condition and there are not many left that are presented in this condition.
Fitted with the smooth M30-coded straight six 3. 5 engine with a 4 speed Automatic with Economy, Manual or Sport settings.

History of Vehicle
The Motorsport Edition had been well looked after all of its life with a fastidious stamped service history and supporting invoices.
The file has a number of receipts which is true testament to its loving owners over the years for servicing work and parts fitted from its registration in 1989, as it’s a genuine UK car it has main dealer invoices and specialist garages paperwork describing in detail the work carried out and the sourcing of genuine and high-quality parts, including two sets of keys.
This Motorsport Edition has only covered just over 109, 800 miles over its life which illustrates the care the car has received and low use it has had.
Currently the Motorsport Edition is part of a high quality and varied car collection, its current owner purchased it in 2019 and immediately instructed his local specialist engineering and technically experienced garage that the car was to be given a complete and thorough review front to back.
Following the production of the written report and several meetings with the garage it was decided that it was such a good car to start with and would be a prime candidate for a full restoration.
To undertake this work, it required taking the vehicle back to a ‘working shell’ this was the removal of most of the key components, doors, boot, bonnet and bumpers, drive shafts, suspension, all glass, all interior, fuel systems and braking components and wheels and was placed on a rolling dolly in order to undertake a thorough restoration to the highest quality.
The bodywork was stripped and repainted, a special order was placed with BMW UK for a set of wings that were replacement and matched perfectly.
As shown in the photographs the quality of the exterior body work is like new with no dents, dings or scratches The Interior feels like new with the front sports seats being re- connolised with the replacement of a sagging drivers bolster and leather and a treatment of any scruffs. The rear seats and all interior leather being thoroughly cleaned and treated. All seats are very well presented, firm and fully operational, the rear seats show little to no use in its life and the mechanical presentation is outstanding with a clean, leak and drip free engine bay.
The Motorsport Edition sits on unmarked and restored 17 inch split polished BBS wheels with virtually ‘like new’ full tread on the tyres and were a rare and expensive option in 1989.

The mechanical work included a complete service, all belts, fluids, and filters changed, new disc brakes and pads and pipes and plates and any auxiliary items were surveyed and replaced due to age or being inoperative.
The restoration of the body and the mechanical work took approx. 2 years, since this time, it has been serviced and MOT’d regardless of miles covered which have been minimal each year but still retains its natural patina so that it kept its own character.
The Motorsport Edition is maintained cosmetically on a regular basis by a detailed step process of a deep cleaning wash, treated with a super resin polish and then a ceramic wax applied
