On the V5C book it says only one previous owner, but on the original log book for 1963 it had four owners. The number is not transferable.
As it is classed as an historical vehicle it does not need a MOT or Road Tax but just Insurance. It has been SORN for a few years. I bought the moped in 2005 from Mark in Ipswich who was mad on Phillip Gadabouts and convinced him to sell me one from his collection. It was a bit run down and needed some resoration, the only thing that he did do was the original engine was siezed up so suppied the bike with a good engine and registered it to the V5c. Since buying the moped I have resprayed it fitted new spokes and wheels. New magneto has been fitted, all chrome has been re-chromed. The seat has been recovered, new tyres and tubes fitted. Has had new piston rings fitted also new suspension bands fitted to front. The odometer works the speedo does flicker but reads. There is a pair of leg shield for the moped which I never fitted and have been painted and come with it if you require them.
This 1963 Phillips Gadabout MkIV is rare, as ther is only a handful of these left in this condition.
The MkIV from 1961 onwards was built with a Mobocane engine and a two speed belt driven. These MkIV's were the last Philips to be made. These were little more than versions of the Mobocane derivatives Raleigh RM4 and RM5 in differenr colours. Front suspension was a band suspension with shockers at rear. The lighting is a 6 volt system. It has a 9:1 compression ratio, big ported barrel and a 14mm Gunter Carb.
