The name Corolla alone may arouse little enthusiasm. Designed to be a reliable car in 1966, it has fulfilled that mission with remarkable distinction to this day!
However, if we add the nomenclature “GT Twin Cam' to the name Corolla, things change. Often called the AE86, its popularity spans generations, as 40 years ago it was a very popular rally car and around 20 years ago it returned to the spotlight largely due to the Drift and Initial D phenomenon.
The truth is that the popularity of this Japanese sports car is more than deserved. Despite not being a colossus in power and performance, it is an excellent toy that many have called 'driving school'. Weighing just 975 kg, rear-wheel drive and an old-fashioned but fun chassis, the AE86 has always been an excellent starting point for anyone wanting to learn the dynamic behavior of a pure RWD.
The 4AGE engine with 4 cylinders and double camshafts was prodigious in the 80s – always wanting to rev up and with an addictive sound! With 125 Ps and 140 Nm, it reaches 100 km/ h in around 8 seconds. Not very impressive numbers for 2024 but very interesting in 1986.
This Corolla GT Twincam was sold new in Portugal, has only 91, 000 km and was recently subject to a documented restoration without regard to costs. The bodywork was completely stripped of components and painted in the original color.
The engine was also rebuilt and now benefits from a complete titanium exhaust from the Japanese company Tomei. The chassis has also undergone significant improvements. All wishbones, supports and carriers were lacquered black and there are also Bc Racing coilovers, adjustable in height and stiffness and camber adjustment. The front axle also benefits from Wilwood 4-piston calipers.
The final touch is made by genuine Watanabe wheels 'dressed' with new Hankook tires. The original suspension, original ATS wheels and many other extra components will be delivered at the time of sale.
