Description

1971 Trident Clipper V8 290 Hipo

Beautifully rare Trident Clipper with its originally fitted 4. 7 litre Ford V8 289 Hipo engine and T10 top loader gear box. New chrome wire wheels and new stainless Aston exhaust back boxes just fitted. Wooden steering wheel and dash inserts revarnished and rear carpets replaced due to car being in a car showroom for the last 15 years and sitting in the sunshine. Engine rebuilt a few years ago and very little mileage done since. My race engineer has gone through the car thoroughly and everything is tickety-boo.
I owned this supercar car for a few years over fifteen years ago and sold it , immediately I sold it, I regretted it, just like I am going to again this time but my health situation means I cannot drive the car and its tantamount to purgatory not being able to drive it. The car has done very few miles between the time I sold it and repurchased it. I bought the car originally from the widow of Ken Morgan. They had started the Trident club and Ken had lavished a huge amount of time, money and care on the car, improving on an already very good and extremely powerful car.
My car has been featured in more than nineteen car magazines and a classic card series.
Trident produced just over 130 cars in total, there were only 39 Trident Clippers manufactured. These were sold to the USA and Germany with a few remaining in the UK. They were expensive luxurious cars with very few peers. Voted the best looking car at the racing car show in 1966. Unfortunately the company couldn’t withstand the pressures of the credit crunch and petrol shortages of the seventies and folded after several short years in business.
It is earth shatteringly fast when provoked and can be driven normally when required.

In the sixties and seventies I used to buy car magazines and dream of owning a Clipper as there was nothing that could come close to them for performance. It’s a fabulous car and draws away attention from any of today’s supercars when parked close by. It has an appeal that I cannot begin to describe as it looks fast when standing still. Mot’d and free road tax. It’s ready to go anywhere. Could be entered now into any sixties/ seventies racing series/ rallies or hill climb event. A 289 Cobra is £250k + . Good replicas can start at £50k .
