To many the MK1 TT is the best of the bunch, certainly they are gaining in both interest and value. Beautifully built cars, well balanced and robust mechanics. The 1800T is a well respected and strong engine and even in the 150BHP form is still a nippy package.
It benefits from a rare and quite costly to buy now hood cover/ tonneau.
Currently showing about 98, 000 miles it drives great and passed straight through the MOT in May.

Bodywork
Bright metallic blue paint in good order with only a few minor marks here and there, nothing that stands out immediately. The bumpers are virtually unmarked and save for a few very small marks it is spot on. Most of the paint looks original to me.
There is one tiny dink on the bonnet a good dent man could likely remove although it is not bad.
There none of the common flaking lacquer either.
There is also very little rust/ corrosion evident and little in way of stone chips. The rear wheel arches and sills are good and I see no rot, clearly not seen paint for many years if ever.
On the whole it is far better than most TT of this age.
The underside has been sprayed with lanoguard wax once by me but would benefit from another go to really soak it now if you wish. This depends if you want a classic to preserve or a cheap runabout.
All trim etc. is good as are the smart alloy wheels which only have light marks and very little corrosion.
The hood is rare blue and is in such good condition I could believe it has been replaced... but suspect it has not! It is virtually mint.
The power operation of the hood works perfectly as does the wind screen/ scarf behind the seats. The heated glass rear window works too.
A very rare hood cover fit perfectly and looks very cool.
It is what it is.......... very tidy, very presentable and good value.
Interior
As with the rest it is obvious it has been cared for. It has full black leather seats and door card inserts which are pretty much unmarked just the slightest of wear to the drivers seat bolster.
Perfect dashboard, carpets, boot etc.
The steering wheel, handbrake, gear lever et are not worn badly either.
All the electrics work including the radio which has the code.

Mechanical
The MOT was passed without comment and it for an inexpensive car it drives well, has no vices with crisp gears and brakes.
Four tyres are matched Pirelli Cinturato showing it was looked after well enough to receive four premium tyres, loads of tread about 5. 6mm front and 6-7mm rear. They are just showing age in the sidewalls but have plenty of life.
The alloys are almost unmarked.
It drives exceptionally well, braking straight and pulling cleanly.
I have fitted new front springs, Top mounts and also taken the sump off, cleaned it out and replaced oil pick up (known issue on these) then new oil and filter.
I was told it has been remapped, for performance and economy. No evidence but it is very torquey and feels lively compared to others I have driven.
What Would I Fault?
Not much! Family want to keep it but its time to go.
Sadly its history was lost due to serious illness of a previous owner which is why it sat unused for a few years. It was promised to me but never came, it is clear the car was well looked after though.
No cambelt change known, I took top cover off and it looked ok but as usual it is ongoing maintenance.
The climate/ aircon does to chill. Never looked into it but likely a regas would sort it if that way inclined... I was not it is a convertible!
The instrument cluster has the usual poor pixels on the LCD and common dial issue with fuel gauge... half full is empty! Low level light comes on at a bit over half. The clusters can be overhauled but it is quite usable as it is.
The alloy rims as is common with Audi seem to lose a little air and could use the tyres reseating... just a few psi weekly but do need keeping right.
It has only one key.

Summary
This car is a modern classic car, it is 20 years old. It is sold as it is and I am unable to warrant it other than to honestly say it has driven well for me over about 1000 miles or so whilst enjoying it. My 23 year old daughter used it and loved it,!
If you are one of those people that believes £1725 buys an as new 20 year old sports classic with a long MOT and no prospect of future maintenance for years then then this is not the car for you. If however you want an inexpensive very smart open top giving entry level TT cabriolet ownership this could be just right.
It is ready to drive away.
I have enjoyed using this, it is registered to me and as a family we love it, so much fun for so little outlay.

Revival motors is a very part time business which deals in classic cars and motorcycles of a type I like…………. turning a hobby into a very part time vocation I actually enjoy. I am always happy to discuss my vehicles which usually I have used and will always point out any known faults, issues or areas that could be improved. This car has been one of our own toys!
