EXTERIOR
Over the years the M5 has always been discreetly designed as an M Power weapon although the tide started to turn with this – the F10. With a far more aggressively vented and aerodynamically efficient front bumper, larger side skirts and very subtly flared arches it looks every bit the muscular super saloon.
Finished in Monte Carlo Blue the bright bodywork shimmers with a prominent silver metallic and looks fantastic up close after careful prep by our in-house team.
The colour really has a dual character – popping and vibrant under the studio lights while sculpted panels create beautiful shades in more neutral settings.
INTERIOR
The M5 might be the highest performing sports saloon in the BMW stable but is it still a 5 series and needs to cosset the driver and passengers on all journeys.
When entering this F10 you are greeted with flourishes of detail that hint to something special; finished in Full Silverstone Merino leather accompanied by fine wood trim and a Sunroof surrounded by an Alcantara headlining. The hugely comfortable and supportive heated leather seats present in excellent order and remain soft and supple whilst the rear bench appears to have had minimal use with the boot space clean and free of marks or stains.
All of the controls are grouped in a very ergonomic fashion, with all of the driving modes lined up on the centre console surrounding the gear shifter allowing the driver to alter the stiffness of the suspension, steering weight and throttle response. All are independent of each other and two ‘M’ buttons on the steering wheel allow one to memorise their two favourite driving settings.
BMWs central control interface is now a paragon of reliability and ease of use; the latest I – Drive 4 works as it should with a very clear menu system while the innovative heads up display features a digital rev-counter amongst other performance related features.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The S63 engine is another masterpiece of technical engineering from BMW Motorsport, blending huge performance with surprisingly decent fuel economy. The basic architecture is a V8 sporting a swept capacity of 4395cc with two, twin scroll turbos, one on each bank of the cylinders. The motive force is sent to the rear tyres via a 7 speed dual clutch transmission and an electronically controlled Active (torque vectoring) M-Differential.
On test drive this M5 feels incredibly potent and able to neutralise its weight the instant the throttle is pushed. When one is on a high-speed road attack sortie, the gearbox is incredibly quick and on the fastest shift programme slams the gears home with race car aggression – yet also capable of seamlessly shifting through the ratios with relaxing grace in the comfort setting.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The forged 19 inch wheels carry a slightly larger profile tyre ensuring slightly more compliant ride quality. Finished in Ferric Grey the wheels present in excellent order wrapped in matching Falken rubber all round.
Fresh from a brake fluid service, and with plenty of material to disks and pads front and rear, the car pulls up strongly and smoothly.
HISTORY FILE
This superb M5 has been extremely well maintained with all Invoicing from new present in the history file.
Initially serviced and with no less than 8 visits to the main dealer – Stratstone – until 2020, German Auto Services of Paignton would assume duties with the last service in July of 2024. In amongst standard servicing, the only issue that has ever been necessary to rectify was a faulty injector in 2022.
Now presented in excellent cosmetic condition, and with servicing up-to-date, this F10 is ready to be used and enjoyed as intended.
