THE PORSCHE 911 SPEEDSTER
Instantly recognizable by its cut-down, wraparound windscreen, minimalist retractable top, and twin bucket seats, the Speedster was in effect, an 'economy' model from Porsche intended to compete with the less-expensive British sports cars. The 356 Speedster became one of Stugart's most beloved models and is now an automotive icon. Throughout Porsche's rich heritage, the Speedster has appeared only a handful of times - the first being in 1953, the second in 1988, the third in 1993/ 4, and after a 16-year hiatus, the fourth came in 2011.
To Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Porsche Exclusive division which customizes new cars to customers' desired specifications Porsche unveiled the 997-based 2011 Speedster at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. As a nod to the original, Porsche limited production to just 356 units just 90 of which came to the USA. With its black framed windshield being 2. 4 inches lower than the standard 997 and a double hump that eliminates the rear seat and covers the fabric top when stowed, the new Speedster possesses the main traits that made the original so iconic.
In contrast to the original stripped down version of the 356 Speedster, the latest 997 Speedster was among the most expensive and well-equipped of the 911 range. The 997 Speedster came with virtually every performance option available on a 911, including PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), Porsche's twin-clutch PDK automated manual gearbox, Sport Chrono plus, limited slip, and Porsche's track-tested ceramic composite brakes (PCCB). These performance upgrades were built on top of the 997 GTS architecture with its 44mm wider rear body, rear-wheel drive, and naturally aspirated 3. 8-liter engine with the 'Powerkit,' bumping output to 408bhp 63bhp more than a standard Carrera. In addition to its distinctive cut-down looks, the 997 Speedster also features the fabulous Sport Classic Fuchs style wheels, a unique aerokit, black stone guards, and leather seats adorned with a checkered pattern featuring Speedster stitching. It remains one of the most collectible 911s in recent years, and a fitting tribute to the iconic original.
THE CAR OFFERED
This striking Carrara White 2011 911 Speedster is car number 196 out of the original 356 produced. It is believed that only 90 examples were exported to the US, making it one of the most exclusive variants of the 997-generation 911, and great examples are coveted by collectors. With just 2, 028 miles shown at the time of cataloguing, this car is in superb condition throughout.
The CARFAX report is clean, showing ownership in Pennsylvania, New York, and Florida, with mileage entries backing the odometer. A breakdown of the VIN shows the all-important 'Custom Tailoring Zuffenhausen' selection, and the Speedster package. Attesting to this being a highly-equipped car, the spec sheet lists no fewer than 97 individual options as part of the Speedster package.
The Carrera White paint looks particularly fetching with the Speedster treatment, especially with this car's black Sport Cassic wheels and yellow calipers clamping PCCB brakes. Inside, there are black leather buckets trimmed with distinctive white accent bands, white dash and door card trim, and evocative checkered-flag motif inserts, another nod to the original Speedster's historic winning ways. Special door sills and a dash plaque commemorate this as car number 196 of 356.
It is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, owner's manual set, spare key, and a comprehensive VIN decoding sheet. The 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster is a must have addition to any serious Porsche collection. Speedster number 196 presents a rare opportunity to acquire a visually stunning, beautifully presented example of the highly collectible 997-generation Porsche Speedster.
